Load the save & select continue when the game loads press select to bring up your menu & select crafting now all you have to do is craft a smoke bomb & you will unlock

I had the same problem, be sure to delete all your savegames first (make a backup BUT do not overwrite!) and delete the game data and patch (except additional content if you have this). Resign save games and try again. I don't know if it makes any difference but i never downloaded the patch and went into offline mode with my PS3 while going for trophies.
