I have been wondering about this too, seeing as there are cheatcodes for Retro city rampage, but you can't save while they are activated so they may be hardcoded into the game, and not in the save.. which means it would be impossible to hack HP.
I'm gonna look into it as I need 1 more trophy myself..
It's easily tested by having 2 saves with different values of HP and comparing them...
