Because from what I understand, there's multiple trophy folders for the same game sometimes, depending on territory, etc.
My exact situation is with Uncharted 3 (BLUS). I started the game and got a few trophies, then stopped playing for a while and sold the game. I no longer have the save file, so starting a new game isn't a problem. But now, if I was to buy back Uncharted 3, but instead a BLES (UK) version, would it install a new trophy set? So I would end up with an 8% Uncharted 3 from the US game and a new 0% Uncharted 3 for the UK game, duplicate game with 2 trophy sets :/
If it creates a new trophy set, then the idea of PS3 games being region free is not clear cut as they say it to be. Sure the game works anywhere. But you get duplicate trophy sets, DLC content are region locked, and who knows what other limitations and annoyance it can cause.
Don't panic! You can carry on getting the trophies with an EU copy of the game, as the Uncharted games don't have stacking trophies. Different trophy list from different regions isn't that common, but it happens. What you do get though is the same trophy list for different platforms (VITA & PS4), but luckily for you, Uncharted isn't one of them.
