I will attempt to answer your question; however, please note everyone that this thread is NOT for questions, it is for people to post if they are hosting infection lobbies. If you want to join one, wait for someone to post, don't ask them to add you.
What is the meaning of 'to infect'?
Infecting means that a code (Created by Hunter12

is passed onto your Playstation 3.
When you join the private game of someone who is 'infected' by, for example, a speed code, you will get that code too.
This means that if you host your own private match, you will be able to do it yourself and pass it onto others.
Does it affect ranked matches online?
Quite simply, no.
Any 'infection' only affects private matches.
Will I be banned for becoming infected/passing it on?
The chances are, you won't.
It does not affect anyone in a negative manner, such as an unfair advantage, so it is more than likely that Sony will not punish users for doing so.
If they were to notoriously punish those that were infected, NextGenUpdate would not post it on their forums.
Be warned however, you use any cheats at your own risk. When signing up to PSN it states you should not use said glitches or hacks, so if you are banned they have a strong legal standpoint.
How do I get rid of the 'infection'?
This is a simple thing.
If you wish to continue playing private matches normally, simply 'Quit Game', Reset your PS3 console or in my experience, go onto an online ranked match and the infection will no longer be with you.
If there's anything else I or anyone else could help you with, try posting a thread posing the question in one of the following section(s):
