Just a couple days ago TheGamerAccess.com broke news about PS3 firmware 3.40 and the possibility of it including cross-game chat. This all began when I heard and saw that foreign PlayStation sites were advertising cross-game chat on their websites by saying:

"Cross-game Voice Chat: invite your friends to chat online no matter what game you're all playing, even if they aren't members of PlayStation Plus."

There has been loads of anticipation since, so I decided to dig deep and hit up Sony themselves. Read more to find out what they had to say.

So while many sites were given quotes confirming cross-game chat will not be a part of PlayStation Plus, none of these quotes either confirmed nor denied it being a part of PS3 FW 3.40, so I dug deep and got in touch with one of Sony's company spokespersons, Julie Han, and asked if PS3 owners can expect cross-game chat in PS3 FW 3.40 and this is what she had to say:

"It will not include cross game chat."

So there you go folks. The highly anticipated cross-game chat will not be a part of PS3 FW 3.40 and for reminders, PS3 FW 3.40 will go live June 29th

Yesterday, several European regions listed cross-game chat as an upcoming feature for the incoming PlayStation Plus service, which will cost $50 for a year subscription. This was a moment of great excitement for PS3 owners, but Sony was quick to remove the feature and deny it'll be part of the cross-game chat, though they haven't outright denied if it would come in firmware 3.40, yet.

Sony: "Cross-game voice chat was not announced as part of PlayStation Plus. The new offering provides subscribers features such as frequent discounts on PlayStation Store content, free and exclusive access to select games, full game trials, early invitations to select betas of popular games, and new functionality such as content downloads and updates which will automatically be "pushed" to the PS3 system even when consumers are not using their system. Content will vary by region.

Sony has only continued to say the service will not be in PlayStation Plus, but they don't deny it being in firmware 3.40. Hope is there it'll come before the end of the month, but whether it will or not can't be determined at this time. With only a week left before the firmware update is set to go, we only have a short wait before us. Firmware 3.40 launches on June 22nd, with PlayStation Plus going live on June 29th.

Sony is full of false promises. I hope that they do release it to the non PSN+ members.

I think it will be included thats basically the whole package if you ask me but im sure the website just forgot to include it

they actually did put CGC in some of the EU website but they immediately deleted the CGC part.
