Hi Everyone, you may have heard in all the E3 hype that we are launching a new premium subscription service called PlayStation Plus, so I just wanted to give you all a quick heads up on what you can expect to get from this great new service so you have all the info before launch on the 29th June.

The first thing to note is that PlayStation Network is still free to join and all the current features will remain free. PlayStation Plus will be offering you a service above and beyond this, including loads of content and exclusive, member-only, PSN features.

From 29th June you’ll be able to purchase a 1 year or 90-day membership from PlayStation Store and instantly get your hands on the following premium features. Plus, if you sign up for a 1 year membership between 29th June and 3rd August, we’ll also throw in a free downloadable copy of the award winning LittleBigPlanet.

Games:
As a member you can expect to get your hands on at least four games a month at no extra charge. Each month there will be a selection of one PSN game, two minis and one PS one classics available on PlayStation Store for you to download. You also get premium avatars and dynamic themes each month, many of which are exclusive to members.

Talking of exclusive, there will also be discounts available on loads of PlayStation Store content, just for members, so make the most of them as these will change each month as well.

Finally, wherever possible we’ll be making sure that members are included in some selected demos and beta trials before they go live to the public so you can be the one to tell all your mates about the next big game they ‘must’ get.

Just the games, avatars and themes alone are worth at least £200* per year, so even before the other benefits, this service is great value for money

Full Game Trial:
This premium feature gives you the chance to try PSN and Blu-ray disc titles before you buy them in a whole new way. We are not talking normal demos of selected parts of a game here. With Full Game Trial, you can download the full game and play it as if you owned it for approximately one hour, depending on the game, before you decide if you want to buy it or not. So you can check out the online modes, play against friends or anything else you’d normally do with a game.

The other great thing is that your progress and trophies from the trial will all be unlocked if you buy the game so no need to go back and start again.

Automatic Download:
We wanted to offer members the speediest service possible so sign up and you can set your PS3 to automatically receive the latest game updates for all the games you play, PS3 system software updates and even have game demos sent directly to your PS3 without lifting a finger.

Just set the time you want to receive them and your PS3 will automatically wake up and download everything, ready for when you next want to play. No more waiting to play your favourite game because there is a new patch or having to remember when the latest system software is launching, let your PS3 do the work.

What is Automatic Download?
When Automatic Download is activated, system software updates, game updates and selected demos will be automatically downloaded to your PlayStation 3 system, so they're ready and waiting for you when you next use your PS3. To activate Automatic Download, visit Settings > [System Settings] on the PlayStation 3 system's XMB (XrossMediaBar) menu.

How much does PlayStation Plus membership cost?
PlayStation Plus costs £39.99 for a one-year membership and £11.99 for a 90-day membership or €49.99 for a one-year membership and €14.99 for a 90-day membership.

Does PlayStation Plus have an age limit?
You must be at least 18 years old to purchase PlayStation Plus membership.

Can I transfer PlayStation Plus membership to another account, including a Sub Account?
No. Once the PlayStation Plus membership has been purchased, it can not be transferred to any other account.

Does my PlayStation Plus account work on my PlayStation 3 system and my PSP system?
Yes. One PlayStation Plus account will be compatible with both your PlayStation 3 and PSP. Downloaded content can be used on both your PS3 and PSP, provided the content is already compatible with each system.

We learned recently that European PlayStation Network users who bought a one-year subscription to PlayStation Plus would score a free copy of LittleBigPlanet. Today we find that the U.S. gets no such deal, but Plus might still be worth your while right from launch.

The PlayStation Blog has a rundown of all the major talking points behind the PlayStation Plus service -- one-year packs for $49.99, a three-month pack for $17.99, etc. -- but rather than offering a full game like LittleBigPlanet to those who sign up for a year, Sony instead is handing out inFamous. As a "full game trial."

The full game trials are perhaps the most intriguing idea in PlayStation Plus. Each month, users can download a full game and try it out for a period of time (usually an hour) before buying it. If you decide to buy the game, all the data from your playthrough (saves, Trophies, etc.) is retained and you do not have to re-download it. The games are also available to normal PlayStation Store users for purchase.

So while it's not a "freebie," it is a way to sample what may be the best of what PlayStation Plus has to offer. Additionally, Plus has WipEout HD as well as PSP mini/PlayStation One Classic games Fieldrunners, Age of Zombies, and Rally Cross available for players at launch. Also, you get free monthly episodes of Qore.

If you haven’t already heard, PlayStation 3 system software (firmware) lands today, June 22nd, 2010 in preparation for next week’s launch of PlayStation Plus.

Be on the lookout for PS3 firmware 3.40 to release some time today or tonight. The firmware is in preparation for the launch of the expanded PlayStation Network service called PlayStation Plus which arrives next week on June 29th.

According to an official SCEA press release, one of the requirements you’ll need to purchase PlayStation Plus is to download firmware 3.40. It also reveals the release date for firmware 3.40. Check out the quote for the press release:

A PSN account is like a xbox live account. And each one is its own account. I myself have 2 PSN accounts. And will only be buying the PSN + for one account. That one account will only have access to PSN + section/s.

But i predict a lot of a new gamesharing life preparing to evolve.



This is impossible. Than Sony would be lying about Cross Game Chat being a part of the release of PSN +.
