PlayStation 3 owners may be surprised to see some of their favorite games didn’t make the top 25. Some noticeable omissions include 3D Dot Game Heroes and MAG, which received an average rating of 77 and 76 respectively.
As for the top 10 rated games across all platforms, the PS3 and Xbox 360 are home to four, sharing Red Dead Redemption and Super Street Fighter IV. Xbox 360 is also in the top 10 for Mass Effect 2 and Bayonetta. The Wii is home to the highest rated game of 2010, Super Mario Galaxy 2 with an average rating of 98. The PC version of Mass Effect 2 also finds itself on the list.
I can understand why MAG didn't make the list. So many people just did not like it. It really is a game for hardcore FPS-strategists, and to be honest, MW2 is just an easier game to learn and play half-decently...when MAG was finally released, it was after 3 betas which received mixed reviews and a lot of people didn't want the game based off their beta experiences (which is really stupid, because it was a BETA). Also, it was only a few months before the mappacks for MW2 would be released. Considering the level of difficulty to become somewhat efficient at that game, it turned off many people. Needless to say, it's a great game with a great concept. Just the market for the game is too small. The big market for gamers nowadays is for games that can be played by the hardcore FPS's enthusiasts while still playable by the people that aren't even that good at it. To give a good example...a typical MW2 match has 1-3 standout players, and one of those guys was obviously the best...while the bottom four players are usually atrocious, and the others are varying...but still cannonfodder for the good players. In MAG, if you're anything less than a typical good player in MW2, you're going to be pretty bad for a while unless you really understand the game and the tactics involved.
That was another part of MAG's general lack of success, the tactics involved were a lot more complicated than any game before it. For example...MW2, the start spawn was always the same, and the matches were quick. In MAG, the start spawn slowly changes, but the attack/defense patterns can change with each wave. And with each different attack, there is a different counter-defense. If you don't know what to do for what, the game just becomes very frustrating...even more so if you know what to do, and you're in a squad with 7 other people that don't, with a squad leader who just likes to shout orders and call his teammates stupid, when he's going 10k-40d in a match.
And on the note of Super Mario Galaxy 2...first off, Mario is one of the all-time classics that with every version, just doesn't get old. I remember when Mario went 3D with Mario64 for N64. That game was amazing. And each version has just been another step from that. Nintendo might not have the best graphics engines with their consoles, but if there is one thing they know how to do right, is make one the best, if not THE best, all-time classics...still a great running series.
And lastly...how did FFXIII fair so well on this list?!? THAT GAME SUCKS!! I don't know, maybe I'm just a diehard FF player that hated the format that came in. I relate it a lot to FF10 for PS2.
Hopefully 14 will do better. btw...just finished FF7 (for the 7th time) that I bought from the PS-Store. Still one of the best stories in the FF series, and best combat systems...hopefully 8 might be a game that comes out on PS+. If not, I'll be buying it soon.

and Red Dead Redemption kicks some major butt.
I thought the multiplayer would get dry...but damn, I love completing the challenges. I've only completed the free-roam challenges (actually, I'm to it...still need like 10 more bounties collected). I just noticed you lose all your completed challenges when you become a Legend. So I want to complete that set before I do so. After that, it's just going to be matches and co-op for me.
And the single player...wow, a really really good story. I love this game so much.
