In an interview with Gamespot at this year's E3, Activision COO Thomas Tippl shed some up-to-date, though still quite vague light, on the PS4's future release. When asked when he expected the next generation consoles to release, Tippl stated that it was unlikely they would see release within the next 2-3 years, as Activision still had no information on any new consoles. With development times for next gen games running 2-3 years on average, it makes sense that if the new consoles will come with third party games at launch (a near certainty), it will be at least 2 years from the time third parties first get the development toolkits in their hands to the point where the console releases. In the meantime all we can do is speculate and continue to wait.

Do you think this is too soon? I do. Only because the PS2 was out for longer and and it seems like they have only just released the PS3. I think maybe they can hold back a little more on the time for the PS4!

What more they have to advance, they already got top of the line graphics and 3D gameplay. The next thing they could make is probably virtual gameplay.

i just think it might turn out to good

I can say it will be Nintendo or Microsoft to announce a new console first off, the lack of HD with the Wii and with the growing market of HD televisions in households will soon be very high in 2-3 years for Nintendo to make the move to HD. Microsoft's console is just as good graphic-wise with the playstation3 although them not having blu-ray cripples them, and as soon as you see using the dvd standard starts hurting them, they will most likely make the jump. For now, Sony may be behind in overall sales, but it's the most future proof console right now. Yes, it will have 3d gaming, but they lower the resolution to the game to achieve the effect in game. Give it time 2-4 yrs I'd say for any of the companies to make an announcement.

On a side note, the one thing that I find funny is Sony owns the right to Bluray so if and when an Xbox3 is released so Sony will be making money off their system too.

How do they have the same quality of graphics when Sony uses Blu-Ray and Microsoft uses DVD. Max resolution on a Blu-Ray is 1920x1080. Max Resolution on a DVD is 720x480. Xbox upconverts its video quality. It is not full HD. not to mention Blu-Ray has better compression methods giving it higher contrasts and richer colors. There for they can't have the same quality. Also I remember when Xbox had the component cable only and said they could still match PS3 and that is why all Xbox have HDMI now. lol Also through my reading I came across an article about speculation of the release of a PS4. From what I read Sony may try to get the PS4 out before Microsoft gets out there new console. The reason behind this is PS1 was the top seller on its generation, PS2 of its generation as well. PS3 is the first Sony system to not be in first place. This is primarily due to its launch date in comparison to Xbox 360. Because of this Sony may try to release PS4 before Microsoft releases their in order to once again take control of that leading spot in the industry, well at least that's what the article read. Anyway I look forward to the new PS whether it's in 2-3 years or 5-10 years. Either way it will only get better. I just don't look forward to the growing price tags of the next-gen systems.

I don't see this happening. Last year (I think) at E3 Sony said like all their other consoles it will have a 10 year life span. So judging by that it will be more like 4-5 years.

I don't think its to early the guy said more than 4 years that is pretty far a way by that time all games will have 3d support, move support, and Cod10 will becoming out if the series lasts that long.
