in the past, i have played and loved the halo franchise but i got the ps3 for the built in wi-fi. i bought the one year warranty with my ps3. Does having the warranty mean that i can take the ps3 back and get a refund (not including the warranty or refund costs) so i can get my xbox?

No, having a warranty means that they fix it for free when it breaks during the warranty time period.

^^^^^ Like stated above warranty covers repairs or replacement not refund unfortunately! I'm sure you can find someone to do a straight trade ps3 for xbox or sell it and buy an xbox.
