As what appears to be a desperate cry of “PLEASE BUY THIS SERVICE!!!”, Sony has released yet another FAQ on what Playstation Plus is about. If you happened to miss why it’s such a great deal the first time around, fear not! You can read again what an amazing deal this service is! Being the dedicated journalist that I am, I browsed the forums for a story. That’s where I happened across some rather angry people. Why were these people angry about the service?
Some people like to read every painstaking detail in a post. These same people are probably the ones that actually read the entire Terms of Service that oh so many of us skip on a regular basis because they are so boring and lengthy. These were the guys that noticed a few things lacking in the FAQ.
First thing on the list, or absent from the list for that manner was the monthly dynamic themes that would be offered for PS+ users to keep. No longer is that found anywhere in the new FAQ. Instead, the wording was changed to an ambiguous statement.
We will continue to regularly update PlayStation Plus with XMB themes and avatars, exclusive items, select game demos and additional discounts.
Second on the list of changes was the alteration of the word and to or. The first FAQ said that each month, PS+ users would receive a PSN title and a PSOne title. In the new FAQ, it now states that they will receive one or the other. This was the main thing that people raged over. How dare Sony switch from getting 4 games a month to 3 games a month! it’s an outrage! PS+ users should get infinitely more value than they put into the subscription. Who cares if that makes no sense from a business standpoint! Sony shouldn’t be making any money off of this service!
Finally, Sony were more specific about the beta access that was to be given to Plus subscribers. In the first FAQ, it was only mentioned that Plus users would get exclusive offers on select betas. It has now been clarified that due to the limited space that is associated with betas, not every Plus member would be invited to a said beta. The already infuriated people who thought that they would be able to get into every beta ever released (apparently they don’t know what the word select means) are now outraged that they might not even get into every beta offered through PS+. The outrage! How dare the developers have a cap on how many people should get into their beta! Plus subscribers should have the right to every beta ever! It makes perfect sense!
If any of the above has your blood boiling, fear not! Your death threats to Sony can stop. According to some users, if you call the right support line, you will be able to get a refund for your PS+ subscription. Mind you if you do this, you will lose anything you have gotten thus far. After talking to the said support line, a $50 credit will be added to your PSN account for you to use on whatever you want at the Playstation Store. Yup. Sony still has your money. However, now you get to decide what YOU want to buy with that $50.
So to those who complained and got your refund, congrats! You really stuck it to the man! I hope you are proud of that $50 credit you got that can only be spent at the PlayStation Store.
