Post: Ps3 no video output problem

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); There is a ps3 on craigslist that is going for $80 that is supposedly "broke" since there is no video.

I'm asking you all how hard it would be to fix this.
I haven't heard of a hardware problem that led to no video, is there one?

I'm guessing this guy has the output set to hdmi when he is using component cables or something.
A quick search came up with this solution...

Your video board needs to be re-set it is locked into what ever setting it was in.
follow the instructions I gave and it should work for you.
1. Turn Off in back (wait few seconds for it to re-set)
2. Turn on in back
3. Turn on in front and hold your finger on it 'till it turns off again -
(you get the beep on then the three beeps for reset and it will eventually beep again and turn off)
4. Turn off in back (wait few seconds for it to re-set)
5. Turn on in back
6. Turn on in front hold finger for three beeps and damn it works!

So in the end I'm basically asking is there any chance this ps3 has something wrong hardware wise that I would have trouble fixing?

Try to put it in "Safe Mode/Recovery Menu"
If it's fat, put finger on power button and hold it there till there is a beep, then keep holding for a few more seconds then it should turn off. Now push the power and hold it, 1beep.... then after the 2nd beep the menu should be there.
Now try one of the options there.
The one that works the best for me is rebuild database, but *IT DELETES EVERYTHING*

Hope i helped.

Yea I know about the recovery menu thing.
The problem is I don't have the ps3 yet its still at the guy from criagslist's house.
I don't think going to his house putting it to recovery mode and then fixing it would be a smart thing to do since he would probably just not sell it then.

I'm asking if you know of anything hardware related that affects audio/video of the ps3 and I wouldn't be able to fix it by doing resets/recover mode stuff.

well i wouldnt take the risk as it could be broken and im sure they looked up the problem before selling and you buy it and its broke you have to pay sony 150 to fix thats if they accept it .my old ps3 froze after 3 seconds of start and about 2 months later there was no video/but the was a sound

Could be bad video/audio port.... you could bring a hdmi cable to try it if your able to, or the last resort would be the recov menu.
All i can do sorry. :(

If he has the settings to HDMI and he is trying to use it with component cables and the screen is just black.. is that the problem?

If thats all it is, there is no hardware problem with it, you just have to turn the ps3 off and hold the power button on for a few seconds and the screen will turn on.
