I 100% confirm that's it their fault. Call the customer support again and make sure to tell them that all of these troubles happened after updating.
If they still refuse, then talk to the manager and express your huge dis-satisfication from their service and how you are dis-appointed with that.
If they say no ( which most likely won't happen) , then at least be rude and tell them " Thanks, I am converting to Xbox 360" even if you will go ahead and fix it, just piss them at least
