I run a slightly older system, an Athlon XP 1800+ (1.53 ghz). TVersity claims to need at least 2+ Ghz to run effectively, but with a little tweaking, your older rig can perform just fine.

BEFORE ANYTHING...OPEN THE FIREWALL FOR TVERSITY.EXE AND MEDIASERVER.EXE OR IT WILL NOT WORK

Set these settings...they should allow you fellow forumers with older systems to enjoy TVersity:

When to transcode:
Only When Needed
Uncheck "Decrease the bitrate"

Optimization:
Select "Speed"

Connection Speed and Quality:
I selected Wired 100 since that's what I have but pick what best represents your network

Compression:
Average

Video Resolution:
Select what suits your TV. I have a 1080p so I input 1920 x 1080.

Decoding Speed:
Uncheck "Decode the media as fast as possible" I found this to be extremely important. Otherwise the computer, contrary to how it sounds, can't work fast enough and the videos will pause and time out on the PS3. Changing this allowed them to run all the way through.

I have discovered that while older systems such as mine will stutter in video for the first 30 seconds or so, this is only a buffering process, and will catch up after around that time. They should play flawlessly here on out.

Also, be sure to have ffdshow installed as your divx/xvid/mpg codec.

For reference, my pc specs:

Athlon XP 1800+
1 GB of RAM
Gigabit ethernet card
Windows XP SP2

Supports AVI (divx/xvid) streaming via transcoding as well as several other formats.

In TVersity, be sure to allow both TVersity.exe and MediaServer.exe firewall access or IT WON'T FUNCTION.

For Windows Media Player 11 (NOW SUPPORTS DIVX AND XVID):
Download and install Windows Media Player 11 (as I'm sure many of you already have).
Click on the Library tab
On the left you'll see a tree structure. Right click on Library in the tree structure.
Click Media Sharing
Enable your options, what folders, devices, etc.
When your PS3 turns on and scans, Windows will pop up and ask if it's ok to allow the device. Allow it.

Also, Windows Media Player does not have to be open for media sharing to function. The computer and PS3 only need to be connected to the same router. The router should be UPnP enabled (Universal Plug-n-Play).

Be sure to remember to add files to the Windows Media Player library so they will be shared. Media Player can automatically scan for files. When I browse files on my PS3, I tend to browse by folder, so I don't worry about organization within Media Player or playlists.

-MPEG
-DivX
-Xvid
