According to the TRO documents prepared by Sony's lawyers the purpose was to stop the releasing of the keys.

They kept saying this will

result in massive piracy UNLESS the defendants are enjoined

Enjoined meaning stopped, directed or forced to stop releasing circumvention devices or keys.

The FAIL here is that in their very own documents (court document 4 to be exact, page 247 Exhibit T) the metldr key is published.

These documents PUBLIC DOMAIN now (which make the keys public), they effectively made the TRO null and void.

However, as of now, that part of the document is now temporarily sealed, but the damage has already been done.

The damage was done anyway, but now it is officially/legally damaged.
Keys are not illegal.

They are numbers and can be mathematically induced (and ironically were in this case). Same thing happened with DVD CSS keys (DeCSS) and HD-DVD keys.

I love this, they charge people from overseas for violating US laws, and publish the keys in the evidence, and they lost the case, how much better can this get?

They were made public by the Devs that are being sued for making it public.

I guess the best example for this would be, I sue someone for showing my personal pictures off on a website, then I bring them to court and show everyone in the room, they are no longer personal, and my evidence is just crap now.
