I have a 40GB (fat model) and I was looking around but was making sure, can anyone confirm this to work? Heres a You must login or register to view this content. From what I've read online you only need a 2.5' internal laptop drive, with 5400 RPM, and and it must be sata.

If it's the 40gb model you will need to have firmware on USB, the ps3 will tell you that system cannot start due to not finding firmware (40% stored on hdd) the 60gb model has the firmware in the nands so a stright hdd swap is easier.

if this is for game back ups just get a western digital USB 1TB.... its aroudn 100 bucks and its easy to bring to friends places who have JB ps3s but downside games tend to freeze a lil more on USB than harddrive
