This is an official Sony update, not the one we are creating, which I mentioned earlier. However, I want to make it clear we will still be doing our own updates for Modern Warfare 2 for additional security updates that are specific to our game. I would also like to note that we plan to duplicate this update on other applicable platforms as well.


Update 1: I just left a security meeting with the coders here at Infinity Ward where we discussed a lot of solutions. I feel good about the meeting, but of course I can't go into detail on the possible solutions we discussed as we don't want to give out any information that could potentially hinder the security any further.

Once I have more information, I will post it here.

The key factor I want you to know is, that while any update takes time, we are looking to make the process as quick as possible and nothing is being left unattended.

Our main focus right now is on:

1) Preventing hackers from affecting legitimate players.
2) Addressing users who have already been affected.

Original Post:

Sony has recently acknowledged a breach in security on the PS3 which has resulted in the hardware and its games to become exposed to exploits and hacks. Modern Warfare 2 is no exception to this security exploit and we understand that some of you have experienced problems with stats and other issues associated with this.

Games rely on the security of the encryption on the platforms they're played on, therefore; updates to the game through patches will not resolve this problem completely, unless the security exploit itself is resolved on the platform. However, that doesn't mean we're not going to look into every option available to us. Regretfully, Call of Duty games are receiving the bulk of the hacker's attention, due to its high player counts and popularity. However, the number of legitimate players severely outweighs the bad apples.

If you are concerned about playing with players who are hacking, I encourage you to play exclusively with friends by utilizing the party or private match options in Modern Warfare 2 and Call of Duty 4 to avoid such players as much as possible until this issue is resolved by Sony.

At this time, we do not have the ability to restore or adjust individual stats.

Let me assure you, while we are very reliant on Sony updating their firmware and security to address the core problem of this issue. We are looking at EVERY option available to us to help any user affected.

This only applies to legacy games such as Call of Duty 4 and Modern Warfare 2. In the future we plan to adjust our approach to not rely solely on platform security and reduce the ability for this to happen in our games, as has already been displayed by the work Treyarch has done on Call of Duty: Black Ops to prevent similar measures

They should just come out with a new patch 1.12? or something. Just to you know. make explosive damages alittle less.and over wright the old modded patch.

i think all they need to do is improve security, make a new update. reset Leaderboards and its fine, that will get their reputation back by atleast 80% other 20% them being VERY late

Funny since they dont even fix cls on the xbox.

i dont think they can change the security in any way. Theres no way they can just alter the patch coding and think the game will still run off of it. What they need now is just a minor fix to the patch and make a new update. i mean people who really wanna play online gatta update to 3.56 and that wont let you run homebrews.

F*ck IW. They left a crapload of issues waiting to be fixed and gave up on the game...

yes but people have modified patches on MW2 so sony updates will not affect the patches, thats why there needs to be a new Mw2 update.

1. No they Dont Ban Every Hacker . Maby The reported hackers by other users .
2. IW didnt Gave up the game they dont know what to do against the hackers and a patch is a game file its hard to patch a patch cuz you van delete that patch anyway with awsome filemananger .

3. we have a serious problem if IW releases a Patch RIGHT now for Mw2.

That Means the following :

Sony patches our CFW and homebrew , IW patches our MW2 Patches.

That Means our modded Mw2 Patch is Patched but we CANT delete/Replace it cuz we cant use Awsome File Manager !

This Will be the best moment for IW to Patch Mw2 so Mw2 is Hacker free for a While
