Sony is a japanese company. They are going to cause problems in the United States at the very least with this lawsuit. If they win, there will be some very serious reprocussions. At the very least, an exodus of sorts. This will, and has already, violate rights. Freedom of speech was impeeded by the restraining order put on geohot. Pursuit of happyness is being impeeded by not allowing us to use our property in the manner we see fit. I'm not sure what else has or will be violated, but I'm sure it is a long list. The exodus would be what I would do, at the very least. Having "big brother" breathing down my neck every time I do something on a computer, phone, etc. That they don't like would be enough for that.
I'm sure that this will probably have ill effects in nearly every country that has access to sony and playstation.
I can see this turning into a war, if the wrong laws are passed and the wrong words are said. After all, no taxation without representation did become our reason for breaking off from britain.

Just my opinion... don't care if you flame/troll because it is my opinion and I'm entitled to one, the same as everyone else is. (Though sony doesn't seem to think so, based on current and past events)

Bottom line. They are a company, they are looking for profit, and they will do whatever it is to make money.

im stil on cfw 3.55 and if i ever get psn banned im going to burn soooo many ps3 games to my hdd that my sh*t is going to blow up

all of you don't seem to understand:

you can do whatever you want with your console, but...
-you can't violate the terms of service for psn that you agreed on when signing up
-you can't use software (cfw, homebrew etc.) that has modified code from sony in it on your machine
-you can't modify code from sony for any development

if you do one of these sony has all the rights to sue/ban/prosecute you!

Where does it say that they can sue for a breach of contract that isn't costing them money? If it was costing them money, then sure they could sue, but if its not costing them money, why should they get money for it? Normally a breach of contract is simply rewarded with a termination of service, I.E. banning you. Bricking your console, taking money they would not have gotten otherwise, etc I can't see as legal. The only reason they could sue geohot on this that I can see is if they copyrighted the keys to the ps3 system. Then it would be a copyright lawsuit. If there is a law that says that a breach of contract requires some kind of monetary repayment, then by all means, point it out.

Still just my two cents. Also its an exploits and hacks opinion. Its my opinion on sony sueing because of exploiting and hacking the ps3. So, I put it here.

the whole freedom of speech and pursuit of happiness is bull shit, if i had freedom of speech i could say anything rasict or sexist and pursuit of happines i could say i own a car i could use it to kid nap people and rape them to bring me happiness, these things are made up to make us feel free when we are not, also i modern times we need to clarify with tecnology you carnt just edit software etc

let me explain in the old days i could be a carpentor yeah well if i made a chair you would buy it, you could then sale that chair, but you would not be able to copy it, but in today world you can copy software and sell it off or give it for free, which will affect my profit from that, so in modern times it needs to be made clear with tecnology and software you carnt just do what you want anymore but you are more likly paid to permanetly rent it, but not own it.

also it is basicly sony hve a patten on the PS3 which means you carnt do anything similar, including software wich runs on it, the law is tricky and down to what is fair and what is right, and to be honest its better to have the right law than a fair law...
