(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); After many many threads with fake photos, and other rumors of an upcoming ‘Playstation Phone’, finally on last night’s big Super Bowl game, Sony let the cat out of the bag finally with a 1-minute Ad!




INFORMATION-
- The Playstation Phone, Xperia Play, will be arriving on April 13, 2011 at 18:00GMT, with a rumoured April 1st release date to follow.
- Orange and T-Mobile will support this awesome phone!
- Its expected to launch with launch with Android 2.3, a 1GHz processor, a 4 inch LCD display, slide out PlayStation controls, microUSB and microSD slots, a 3.5mm audio jack and a dedicated games launcher dubbed “PlayStation Pocket”.

Games will be delivered through the Android Marketplace, and the system will ship with Asphalt Adrenaline 6, Bruce Lee, Star Battalion, The Sims 3, and Tetris preloaded, along with a "legendary" PlayStation title. "More than 50 additional titles from top franchises at leading game publishers will be available for purchase at launch," the announcement states.

Sony is also very excited about the buttons on the device, calling them "dedicated gaming controls for real console quality game play, including four-way directional keys, recognizable ABCD keys with PlayStation iconography, left/right shoulder keys, and two analog touch inputs for joystick action."

Sony is promising 60fps playback of these games with the built-in Andreno 205 GPU, and over five hours of game play isn't bad. This is the phone that's really going to show off what Sony's PlayStation Suite is capable of, and may even make iPhone gamers jealous of those built-in buttons.

Seriously, have we noted that we like the idea of a phone with gaming controls?

This should give the Android platform a nice push into the world of gaming, and we're looking forward to getting our hands on a handset as soon as possible. Still, the pricing on games is going to be key, as iPhone games have carved out a strong niche with touch controls and low prices. Sony needs to be realistic about the cost of these titles, even on a new device.

Conor from Orange took to Twitter to announce the good news, saying: “yes we are due to take the Experia Play in April”.

It might be jailbreakable because it's a Playstation Phone! =)

I'm actually excited for this but there's 2 things I can see wrong.

1- Price. Remember how much the ps3 was when it first came out? How about the iPhone? I'd say even with a 3 year contract, you're looking to pay a lot of money.

2- Chances are us people in Canada will have to wait an extra year for it to come out here

Either way, I have high hopes for it, I've always been a Sony Ericsson fan.

Sony is not getting my money for this shit I would buy a Windows 7 Phone, instead.

In my opinion Xperia Play will be better. You can play Playstation 1 games and make calls as well. I will totally get this phone and i bet that the first week people get their hands on it, someone is going to come up with a way to jailbreak it! :shh:

I agree. At&T is better than T-Mobile, but the company doesn't matter for me, as long i got the phone i'm fine.

Can i buy the phone and use at&T service???
