Sony's plans to subpoena internet sites like Google, Twitter and PayPal in an attempt to locate PS3 hackers has been denied by a US judge.

Hon. Susan Illston refused Sony's request for expedited discovery, denying the firm the opportunity to learn more about the identities of hackers including members of fail0verflow, according to PSX-Scene.

Last week, a code sharing website removed seven custom firmware files relating to recent PS3 security breaches after receiving a Digital Millennium Copyright Act request from Sony.
