(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The PlayStation consoles, which are designed by Sony, are generally accepted as the best gaming consoles on the market and the countdown has already begun for the PlayStation 4 to be released. The release date for the console is estimated at late 2012 as the PlayStation consoles normally have a shelf life of around 6 years. The first console the PS1 was released in 1994, the PS2 was released in 2000 and the PS3 was released in 2006.

The PlayStation console has a fair few competitors in the markets and the moment, with the innovative Nintendo Wii which produces a gaming experience like no other and is very cheap. It also has to compete with its arch enemy, Microsoft’s Xbox which has always tried to match PlayStation in this market.

So what can we expect from the new PlayStation, PS4.

The games will no longer be packaged in cases but instead bought online which would make the game buying process more convenient and Sony hopes making it easy would mean more sales. Specification which has been confirmed include the PS4’s implementation of the chip which shall use 6-8 cores, 24-32MB shared L3 Cache, Quad threading per core, and a double precision performance approaching 200GFLOPS. The current CELL chip which powers the PS3 can achieve 15 double precision GFLOPS at its optimum therefore this means that the PS4’s performance leap would be over 10 fold over its predecessor.

Are you becoming excited about the prospect of a new PlayStation in the near future?

If this happened we would need big ass HDD's on the PS4 to download all the games. Maybe even terrabytes.

Sure thats why the 360 and wii are wiping the floor with the ps3 at the minute in console and game sales. Ps3 most sucessful console my arse the thing has been hacked more than any other console to date and people still can't get on PSN, hmm.

Ps1 and 2 though ****ing right they were the kings wtf has happened to Sony this gen, it sucks. Also some of the current gen games don;t even come close to what we have available on those 2 old consoles. Games have gone so down the drain we are not rtequired to think anymore in order to complete a game, FFXIII wtf was piece shit auto on everything run a single path following a gay arse storyline.

Their thinking of doing a Steam with the PS4 people aint going to like that. I personally like to have my games in there cases with their manuals. Cloud computing is an idea than never started as it means to the end user a complete loss of control and this is why it has never caught on.

ResistTheSun
In Flames Much?
It not true Winky Winky

I seen nothing about this i doubt we see sony move to only downloads for the console.
Most peoples net would take days to download games
Also PSN does not do fast downloads for most people again so it a no no

My guess disc based with a PSN focused on gaming (If they have sense) upgrades to the hardware so it more powerful not by much.

At least I can fight
Digital only? Makes me laugh.. what about the people with poorer connection? Imagine them having to download a 20gb file, and having to wait so many days just to finish it.

It "almost" failed on the PSP Go, so why bother? The reason why I say almost is because the idea itself is great, but it's HOW the idea was USED. For instance, good games such as Kingdom Hearts was not added in the online Playstation Store. This angered a few PSP Go owners (such as me, but I don't care anymore, sold it haha).

So.. let's just see how this will stack up the future..
