(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Infinity Ward will reportedly hand over development duties on the as yet unannounced Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 to another studio as it focuses on something “completely new”.

That’s according to VG247 sources, who suggest that Modern Warfare development duties will be assumed by another internal Activision studio, possibly the recently formed Sledgehammer Games - headed by ex-Visceral bosses Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey – or a Canadian developer, presumably Prototype creator Radical Entertainment.

The success of the Call Of Duty franchise – and particularly the games developed by Infinity Ward, which has recently shared development of the core series titles on an annual basis with fellow Activision studio Treyarch – has afforded the developer elite status within the industry and a degree of bargaining power when it comes to contractual negotiations. In 2008 Infinity Ward renegotiated its contract with its parent of five years, noting that the new deal "laid the groundwork and kick started our future project, as well as the possibility of a unique new IP by Infinity Ward, that we’ll have complete control over”.

Infinity Ward’s most recent title, November 2009’s Modern Warfare 2, recorded “the largest entertainment launch in history”, shattering theatrical box office and game sales records by generating $500 million in five days post launch, according to Activision.

Shortly ahead of the game’s release the developer said: “Right now we don’t have a clue what our next game is going to be, and we won’t know what it will be until we finish with Modern Warfare 2, which won’t be for a while.” Infinity Ward is due to release a number of DLC packs for Modern Warfare 2 beginning this spring.

In response to the report Activision told us that it "doesn’t comment on rumour or speculation".

I can assure you it won't be MW3 cause the former IW vs activision isn't till may and that includes who owns the rights to Moder Warfare franchise activison own COD but this court case is over that and activison carnt make a MW3 incase they lose the case and have to cancel it.
