Many great RPGs are coming out this year, which is unusual beucase normally 1-2 good RPGs get released every year. RPGs are overlooked by most gamers, as their interest is in first-person shooter mostly (FPS). However people who try RPGs will come to love them due to their choice selection and desired outcomes.

Dragon Age II is a sequel to the highly rated game, Dragon Age: Origins. The game is being developed by BioWare and is being published by EA. It is set for release on March 8, 2011 for the U.S. and March 11, 2011 for Europe, according to BioWare. There is a demo currently out on the PSN store as of February 22, 2011 and same goes for Xbox live marketplace.

Dragon Age II will feature a greater difference between races, meaning elves, dwarves and qunari are being reviewed and redesigned.

Save Transfer

Dragon Age II allows the player to import saves from any completed Dragon Age: Origins playthrough. So, while you may be controlling a different character in Dragon Age II, the choices of The Warden made in Origins are still imported from your save and reflected in the world. Choices from Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening, The Golems of Amgarrak, and Witch Hunt will also be imported. The player must import his or her save games in a single chain tracing all the way back to Dragon Age: Origins to be able to import all game data (i.e. rather than two separate transfers from Origins/Awakening to the respective DLC).
Starting out the game, players are tasked to select from three builds to carry over from the first game if they don’t have a save to upload. The three builds are as follows:

"Hero of Ferelden" (Default): Ended Fifth Blight by killing Archdemon and survived. Placed Alistair on the throne.

"The Martyr": Young Dalish Elf who died to kill the Archdemon. She left the kingdom ruled by Alistair and Anora.

"No Compromise": Dwarven noble took command of Grey Wardens. Exiled Alistair, sent Loghain to his death against Archdemon, and left Anora as Ferelden’s ruler.

Dialogue

  • The dialogue system of Dragon Age: Origins will be replaced with a dialogue wheel, similar to BioWare's earlier title Mass Effect. Unlike Mass Effect however, when you move your cursor over a selection, an icon is shown in the center of the wheel that indicates the intent of the player line: flirty, violent, sarcastic, etc.

    • The dialogue wheel will have up to six dialogue options for players to choose from.

  • Additionally, the player character Hawke will be fully voiced. The male Hawke will be voiced by Nicholas Boulton.


Approval and gifts

Dragon Age II will use a Friendship and Rivalry system. Instead of only getting content and combat bonuses based on positive approval, you can either build a friendly or antagonistic relationship with your companions. Also, specific actions can still cause companions to turn on you, in spite of their approval rating.
There are fewer gifts in Dragon Age II, and the gifts are specific to each companion. Gifts will also prompt specific dialogues.

Crafting

In Dragon Age: Origins in order to make a potion or a poison or a trap PC had to first learn the recipe, then find all of the necessary ingredients. Now, rather than having to carry components around with PC, PC simply have to find their source out in the world. Once PC comes across a strain of Elfroot (for example) all crafting vendors will have access to it - no need to shuttle bits and pieces back and forth. The challenge now comes from finding the different sources of raw materials, and the different strains of components. It's a far more elegant system, one that rewards exploration over hoarding, unclogging PCs' inventory in the process.

The linear progression of the talent trees in Origins meant that the player frequently had to spend valuable points on talents the player never had any intention of using so that the player could get to the one he/ she actually wanted. The talent trees in Dragon Age II are actually webs, more circular in nature and offering more than one path to the different types of talents. Talent upgrades branch off from their base skills, leaving the way clear for other progressions.

Technology

In an interview with Joystiq, BioWare VP Greg Zeschuk stated, "I think one of the key things we're working on in Dragon Age II is the technology. I can confirm that we're doing a lot of work on the Dragon Age engine, and doing a lot of stuff to pump it -- to make it visually super hot." Mike Laidlaw has also confirmed the use of DirectX 11 for the PC version of Dragon Age II.

Major characters

Hawke: The protagonist.
Flemeth: The notorious Witch of the Wilds.
Cassandra: A Chantry Seeker who is interested in Hawke.
Varric: A dwarf rogue who acts as a narrator and companion for Hawke.
Bethany: Hawke's sister and an apostate mage. She is also a companion.
Carver: Hawke's brother and a warrior. He is also a companion.
Aveline: A female warrior and a companion.
Isabela: The captain of the pirate ship The Siren's Call. She is also a companion and a potential romance for both male and female Hawke.
Fenris: A male elf and ex-slave who was infused with lyrium by his former master. He is also a companion. and a potential romance for Hawke.
Marethari: The Dalish Keeper from the Dalish elf origin.
Merrill: Keeper Marethari's First from Dragon Age: Origins is a mage and a companion and a potential romance for Hawke.
Sebastian: An archer of noble birth seeking revenge for the murder of his family by assassins. He is also a companion.
Anders: An apostate mage and Grey Warden from Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening. He returns as a companion and a potential romance for Hawke.
Orsino: The elven First Enchanter of the Circle of Magi in Kirkwall. He is one of the most respected people in Kirkwall
Meredith: Knight-Commander of Kirkwall. She is one of the most influential people in Kirkwall.
Marlowe Dumar: Viscount of Kirkwall. He is one of the most powerful politicians in Kirkwall.
Grand Cleric Elthina: Grand Cleric of Kirkwall. She is one of the most powerful people in Kirkwall.
Romances Edit
Dragon Age II will feature romances "for all genders and orientations." The four confirmed romances of Dragon Age II are Isabela, Fenris, Merrill and Anders.

Dark souls is a spiritual sequel to the amazing RPG known as Demons Souls. This game was recently announced an hasn't had any information released yet. However it will be released on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. The expected release date is around Fall 2011.



However he is a recent interview from Gamespot and all credit goes to them.

GameSpot: Why did you decide to do a game like Dark Souls as opposed to a traditional sequel?

Hidetaka Miyazaki: From a creative standpoint, I'm glad that it's not a direct sequel and that we're calling it Dark Souls, which is a new game, simply because we don't have to be bound by the features, the game design, and the content of Demon's Souls. So we were able to try out new things, take the experience from Demon's Souls, and put it into a brand new game.

GS: What do you find interesting about the fantasy setting and themes associated with Demon's Souls?

HM: So, there are two answers to that. First of all, my past experience with creating Demon's Souls [was] a good experience. But I want to express being strict. Life is not easy, you know. I wanted to express being in a devastating situation and being able to fight against it to try and succeed. [This doesn't just apply to games], but sort of to life, and that's what I want to express.

And when you think, "OK, how do I express this or where do I express this?" the dark fantasy world was a perfect place to sort of communicate to people that play this game to constantly stand up--to constantly fight. Perhaps it's not as deep as I sort of make it sound, but to answer your question, one is my past experiences, but the next is sort of the message I want to try and get across.

GS: One of the things Demon's Souls is known for is its difficulty, but was there any internal concern over making a game so challenging?

HM: In terms of game difficulty, there were definitely some arguments or discussions that went on within the development team itself. And there have been requests for different modes, like an easy, normal, and difficult or hard mode. But the reason why we [said no to those modes] is we want to give rewards for something…being able to carry out and achieve something very difficult. As soon as you start to make an easy mode and as soon as you bring down the barriers for that difficulty, then what we're trying to create and what we're trying to express isn't going to be true. It's not going to be real.

Secondly, the messaging system in the game--similar to the one in Demon's Souls--and the feelings you have from reading the messages is simply because you know that other people are facing the same difficulty. The way I express it to my team and help them understand is this: It's like throwing seeds into a dried-out land, basically. You throw seeds out, but sometimes the seeds will bloom. That's sort of what I'm trying to express with Dark Souls.

But I don't feel all games have to be as difficult, but for this game, that's the concept I have in mind. There's no intent in making the game any easier just because of the rewards, happiness, and satisfaction you get from seeing the seeds sprout out of dry land.

GS: Early reports suggest that Dark Souls is even more difficult than Demon's Souls. But one of the biggest hurdles in Demon's Souls came from understanding the rules of the world, rather than the combat. Is that the case in Dark Souls as well? Or is the actual combat going to be more difficult as well?

This game is expected to be harder, yet better.

Mass Effect 2 was a great game, recently released on PS3 and has received many Game of the Year awards by numerous industries. Mass Effect 3 is aimed to launch in Fall 2011 and is ready to pack a punch.



Details have been revealed and hinted at since Mass Effect 2 was released over a year ago, so for those fans who haven’t kept glued to the internet for each and every update, we’ve gathered them here for your viewing pleasure. Hints and developers quotes are helpful, but viewing the franchise as a whole gives a fairly good idea of where the story is headed.

Those who have yet to finish the first two games be warned, there be spoilers ahead. In a game as large and open to player impact as Mass Effect, it’s unlikely that the experiences of two players will be identical, but stop reading if you don’t want the big story points ruined.

So without further ado, here are the facts, the rumors, and our hopes for what BioWare has in store for fans of science fiction and dialogue trees when Mass Effect 3 lands next November.

The Story:

After discovering that all intelligent life in the galaxy was about to be eradicated by an artificial lifeform known only as The Reapers in Mass Effect, super-soldier Commander Shepard went on to sabotage their plan and rise through the ranks to become one of the biggest representatives of the human race. While the harbinger of the Reapers, a ship-sized being called Sovereign had been destroyed, his awakening of the massive Reaper horde on the edge of space was not stopped. The final moments of Mass Effect were not really climactic -- more of a warning with Shepard stating that the real fight would continue now that the Reapers were making their way towards civilization.

Since Mass Effect 2 did little to advance this particular plot, fans couldn’t have been blamed for feeling somewhat cheated (if they wanted a lot of plot-progression). Aside from endorsing a vast array of Citadel boutiques, Mass Effect 2 was essentially the personal story of Shepard looking out for human settlers whilst assembling a super-team from a variety of species. The VGA announcement trailer for Mass Effect 3 put off any notions that BioWare had forgotten about Shepard’s foreboding warning at the end of ME, depicting Earth under full assault from the Reapers.

As many information is not yet known because it is staged at an early development, you can already tell this game is going to rock everyone's socks off.

Elder Scrolls is a very well known RPG franchise and never failed to deliver. It has first hit the shelves in 1994. After that many great games have been released, one of which is Skyrim which is going to be released on 11-11-11 for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.



Skyrm's story is set 200 years after the events of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and the world of Tamriel is in shambles. The empire has fallen to the elves, the Blades are gone, the Nords hate each other, and a civil war is about the break out. Oh, and that big dragon the Elder Scrolls prophesied about? Yeah, he's arrived, too. Players will take control of the last remaining Dragonborn, a dragon hunter anointed by the gods to help fend off the threat.

Bethesda's newest title features a brand-spanking new engine where every object in the game now casts a shadow as well as improved draw-distances. Textures are sharper and more detailed and the environments are livelier. There's also the addition of a HUD-less first-person view and "improved" third-person camera option.

There will be five massive cities that span Skyrim's environment, which ranges from frozen tundra to rocky mountain tops. There is also new wildlife, such as Sabre-toothed Cats and Wooly Mammoths.

The combat is getting a bit of an overhaul, too. Players will be able to equip any weapon or spell to either hand at any time and even duel wield two of the same weapon. A new customizable menu is being added to help swap load-outs easily in battle.

Bethesda has also done away with the character class system and reworked the game's leveling mechanic. Players' skills will level up the more they are used, contributing to your overall level growth. "Raising one skill from 34 to 35 is going to level you faster than raising one from 11 to 12," Bethesda designer Todd Howard told the magazine. Players can also level pass 50, but it becomes much slower after that point.

The team has also added Fallout 3's perk system, where each new level gained allows players to add special abilities to their character, including increase in damage to dagger stealth attacks or allowing your mace to ignore enemy armor.

Skyrim's NPC conversations are a lot more realistic. Aside from including even more voice actors, the AI-controlled characters will actually move about and continue on with the activities they were doing before being interrupted. Towns also include more activities to do, such farming, mining, woodcutting and cooking.

Bethesda also revamped the game's menu system. Howard said the team used Apple's iTunes as inspiration and direction. Players will be greeted with a compass-style overlay with four options: Skill, Inventory, Map, and Magic. Weapons and spells can be tagged as a 'favorite' for quick selection. Every item is a 3D object than can be viewed and examined.
