Sony is prepared to debut a new motion sensing controller for the PlayStation 3 at this year's E3, according to a report from Variety. The blog cites "several sources" intimate with the project, including ones who have seen the device for themselves. The sources also claim that the controller they saw is very similar to the patent uncovered in 2007, using LEDs to track movement more accurately than the Wii remote. The report recalls another rumor from last month that Sony is looking for developer support for the device.
Sony has given its standard response, stating that it doesn't comment on "rumor or speculation." Two years seems like a long time to wait, so it would have been easy to assume that Sony just scrapped the idea. But if the motion sensing is more accurate than the Wii, and they're giving developers some time with the controller to make polished titles, the wait could end up paying off.
