So, as many of you know, most first-person shooters support maybe 8 to 10 players per game, sometimes 20 if you're talking about the Battlefield franchise, and maybe even in the 250's if you're in the mood for MAG. But, have you ever seen a game with 500 players on each side? Of course you haven't! This is why Pikkotekk is breaking a world-record of most players on one map at the same time.
"About one year ago, we were talking with CCP and we came up with this idea that if we made a MMO FPS in Unity, the technical achievement would be of such magnitude that it would even impress random women in bars," said Pikkotekk's Christian Lönnholm, according to Rock, Paper, Shotgun.
They have an idea on how they're going to do this, act as if their servers are like cellphones. Have you ever noticed when your cellphone connects from one tower then switches to another? No, so they're going to make it so you don't notice when you leap servers, making everyone able to be in a game with 999 other players, with (hopefully) a semi-decent connection to the host.
They say that this will be a one-time-only event, meaning once they get the 1,000 players into one game, that's gonna be it (until someone else tries going for more then 1,000 players in one game, of course).
Details on the game will be mixed between tanks & robots (which is what the world-record event will have).
All the rest of the details are yet to be announced, so stay tuned to claim your spot in a world record that will never be forgotten!
Question: Do you think that the world record will be a success?

I really dont think so you would need 20 servers for that one match not a host like call of duty. Dice would have to have dedicated servers and they would need thousands.
It's not long before this vision becomes reality for all multiplayer games, it's inevitable that as our technology improves and the gaming audience becomes greater that games will actually start to look like real battlefields... kinda like WoW mixed with CoD... but better.
