Sony are going to fight LG to try and stop Playstaions being confiscated

The South Korean company LG has recently blocked imports of PlayStation 3′s into Europe for at least ten days because of intellectual property infringement. Lots of people have said that Europe may have shortages of the Playstation soon because of the ban. Over a thousand of the consoles have been intercepted and confiscated and many more have been barred access. However, the ten days are over tomorrow and this may be Sony's chance to try and get the ban lifted.

Two o’clock will mark the time when Sony will fight LG over their actions in the Netherlands, Sony may have a solid case though, because the Playstations that were seized in Tilburg did not come under the EU Regulation 1383/2003. So this means LG may have a tough battle on their hands.

The intellectual property activist, Florian Mueller has also found info on the case between Sony and LG. Customs action to seize the Playstations was requested two weeks ago by LG, also he states that the Dutch Court allowed some of Sony’s Playstations to be seized on 3rd March and another two times, meaning that the amount of consoles seized could be massive.

LG has claimed that three patents were infringed by the Blu-ray player in the Playstation 3, and was they also said they were willing to grant Sony a license on “FRAND” (Fair reasonable and non-discriminatory terms). Sony however was only willing to take the license if LG and Sony also reach an agreement on royalties. However LG disapproved and pushed for royalties on PS3′s sold.

Also before LG filed this request for a ban on the Playstation imports, Sony actually filed a complaint to obtain an import ban against mobile phones sold by LG, but so far this has been unsuccessful.
If LG loses in court, they may have to pay Sony for any damages, but if Sony is proved wrong LG will have a more powerful position to get more charges in the Netherlands, the home of the European imports.

I'm glad to see Sony isn't going to put up with any shit and willing to fight this. In my opinion both parties need to work out some kind of deal. If not than it could have really big implications for the future.

I'm sick and tired of big companies and people trying to screw over each other, I wish people could get along and grow up a bit. I guess it's my own dream I must be wishing for.

This is just my opinion and I'm going to keep dreaming and hope both sides can get along for everyone's sake. LOL

Thanks for the read! :p

Yes I agree, I think they should both just try and stop trying to win money off each other and damage each others' sales. In the end neither company will come out of this better off.
