I'll make this very quick. I have an 80GB HD on my PS3 CECHE01 and today I decided to buy a new HD for my PS3. I just have two questions.

1. Is this the right HD for the PS3 because its' size is 2.75 instead of 2.5 and I'm worried if it would fit or not. You must login or register to view this content.

2. I'm currently on CFW 3.55 Kmeaw. Will formatting my new HD still keep my CFW 3.55 Kmeaw on my PS3?

Please reply quick if it's not too much because I'm going to buy it today.

Yea not sure if it'll fit but the firmware is stored on the NOR/NAND chip uhm .pkg's will get deleted though

Its won't fit in the ps3 slim i dont think it will fit in the fat ps3 but when you install a new hard drive on your ps3 you will need to reformat the ps3 and hard drive and install ofw 3.55 1st then install cfw you wont be able to go to the XMB so you have to plug in your usb drive with OFW 3.55 it will install then you can go to the xmb and install cfw

Thank you so much guys for the help. I just bought a 500GB hard drive but I don't think I'm going to put it in yet because I need to backup my PS3 games. Can I back up my games through FTP and Filezilla? If so, what files are the saved games?

Also if I decide to put my 80GB hard drive back to my PS3, will it prompt me to format it or will it still have all of the saved games?

if your 80gb hard drive was in ur ps3 before and you take it out and put it back in you will be ok as it wont need to be reformatted hope a helped mate

Well today I installed my 500GB hard drive successfully. I backed up all of my games and restored it to my 500GB HD. And the best part was I didn't have to re-install anything including my psn downloaded games, CFW, etc. It was nice all the way. Thanks for the tips and advice guys.
