Post: ps3 slim won't read certain games?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); hey, not sure if i'm posting in the right section... but...

I just bought a brand new ps3 slim 320 gig (came stock with 3.55 fw). It is the slim with the ps move bundle. anyways, i bought that, and demon's souls. i went home to play demon's souls, and i couldn't get the game to get farther than the character build screen without freezeing. to be specific, after i created my character and the game was "updating save file" is when it would just lock up there for 20 minutes or longer and never progress past that point. Also during the character build screen i would notice graphical errors (like the whole head and body of the character wouldn't be displayed, only the face. Or the sound would stop playing after about 10 seconds). I tried Demon's souls on my friends fat ps3 and it worked perfectly fine on the first try.

So i returned the ps3 slim and exchanged it for another 320 gig slim. brought it home, hooked it up, same EXACT problem. btw, the other game i have, little big planet, plays fine on both slims.

Now, it is my understanding as i've been reading that the ps3 slim just "doesn't play certain games" which i found really hard to believe hey would release a product that doesn't work with earlier ps3 games, but i seem to be finding this to be true.

basically what i'm wondering is....is this true? If so, is there anything that can be done other than buying a refurb fat ps3?

Did you make sure disc is not scratched up?

it does have some MINOR scratches. like hair line type scratches. nothing bad or major. no gouges our big scratches. it was a used copy of the game.

like I said though, i did put it in my friends old ps3 and it worked without a hitch.

Short answer... Replace your disc. I guarantee it's the problem.

Hey one little scratch can cause that big problem, replace your disc and it should work, stop by one of your local game stop buy used one and just return that one that you have .

So you guys think a few tiny scratches could really be that big of a problem? kinda makes me have some doubts about the quality of the lens in the slim model.

luckily i bought the game only a few days ago from a local gamestop in the mall and they have a 7 day return policy on on used games, and they had a new copy so i will return it and buy the new one tomorrow and update if it fixes it or not.

just amazed that it worked PERFECTLY on a fat :\

Got a new copy last night, tried it, and it worked fine. Thanks for the advice.

Still don't understand why an original Fat ps3 played it perfectly, and 2 BRAND NEW ps3 slims couldn't even come close.
