So Much Win.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); As geohot fights his uphill battle against the big dogs at Sony — Sony throws another obstacle in his path, claiming to have [circumstantial] evidence supporting the fact that he, geohot, or should I say blickmanic, does/did have a PSN account, which would then imply geohot not only lied, but agreed to the PSN user agreement terms, and is therefore subject to personal jurisdiction in California. Wait — they’re still on the jurisdictional tip? Man oh man… As Groklaw says, “Personally, I think Sony should just sue the guy in New Jersey.” No shit.

Anyway, for the evidence, check it: (quoted from a legal docs obtained by Groklaw)

Hotz identified four PS3 Systems in his possession. Bricker Decl., ¶4, Exh. C. He explained that he had purchased one of these consoles new in February 2010 and provided the serial number for that console. Id. SCEA used that serial number to determine that on February 25, 2010, Hotz purchased the PS3 System at a Gamestop store just miles from his home. Law Decl., ¶6; Bricker Decl., ¶6, Exh. E. SCEA’s records show that the same PS3 System was used on March 10, 2010 to create a PSN account under the user name “blickmanic.” Law Decl., ¶6, Exh. A. The IP address associated with the registration is located in Glen Rock, New Jersey, where Hotz lives. Law Decl. ¶6. Hotz’s ownership of the “blickmanic” account is further supported by the fact that an Internet search of the user name “blickmanic” reveals a posting discussing the jailbreaking of cellular phones – Hotz’s original “claim to fame.” Bricker Decl., ¶7, Exh. F (“Just curious what people would pay for exclusive rights to this solution. [Motorola] Tracfone W175g unlocked and debranded. PM me.”) As discussed above, to create his PSN account, Hotz was required to first agree to the terms of the PSN User Agreement and thus he is clearly subject to personal jurisdiction in California.

Now whether or not geohot is blickmanic remains to be seen… Like I said it’s circumstantial; blickmanic could be a sibling, a cousin, a friend, anyone… So as the world turns and geohot sweats it out, you can visit Groklaw for more inside info.

At least I can fight
But he hasn't agreed to the newer TOS. The older TOS may not have had the parts about using circumvention devices and the like on you console, this guy isn't a liar either, unless he forgot about it lol.

While I respect your opinion and agree with you, If this is found true than this will give "Sony" a lot of room to do what they want (Already having their way with everything) and will not look good for "Mr. George"

Whether or not he bought it in California or New Jersey, the fact is he will still be subjected for the actions he made. I personally think it sucks for him and we all should be watching closely as well.

Just my opinion by the way, quote me if you want a reply back! Smile

Your opinion makes a lot of sense, very thought provoking. I agree with your point. That is true, they will run amok if proven. That is what I do not understand how can he be prosecuted in CA. Hypothetically the system was hacked in NJ, wouldn't the courts there have a say in this? I thought that crimes was handled by the courts of where the supposed crime took place. If true then Sony would have to prove that a crime was committed in CA. Or has releasing information removed all boundaries of law?

right i have just tried to add blickmanic on playstation and it says user isn't registered. This could mean two things:

1. Sony removed the user from the network
2. Or the information about blickmanic is false and sony claims that he has an account.
