(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); This Guide is for those who's ps3 hard drives have decided to stop working

**Disclaimer** this process will erase the entire contents of your hard drive

(From my understanding there is no way to transfer your information to a new hard drive, Each PS3 uses its own encryption, someone please correct me if Im wrong)

To know you have a broken hard drive, you will experience these symptoms:

-No Sound

-Black Screen

-Soft Reset of the Screen settings doesnt work (the 2-3 beep method)

In order to do this you MUST have an extra usable hard drive slot in your computer!

First of all, follow steps 1-6 of IFMRacing's guide here:

Now, you should have your playstation 3 hard drive in your hands, ready to place it in your computer to be fixed.

1. Second, you need to install SwissKnife on your computer.

And hit download.

Once the download is complete, install the program and move on to the next step.

2. Turn off your computer and unplug it, for safety reasons.

3. Open your computer, and locate the two hard drive plugs. These will correspond with two connection areas on your ps3 hard drive.

4. Connect the plugs.

Its pretty self explanatory, Big->Big, Little->Little

5. Place the hard drive somwhere where it will fit inside of your computer, prefferably near a fan so it wont overheat.

(I simply put mine in the compartment where a secondary hard drive would be)

6. Close everything up, Turn on your computer, and load up SwissKnife.

FYI: You may want to do this fairly quickly, to avoid overheating of your ps3 hard drive.

7. Swissknife will automatically load to a screen with all of your devices listed.

Your Ps3 hard drive will probably be labeled as 1 of 2 "Secondary Master" drives.

Just make sure you pick the one with the same size as your ps3 hard drive.

8. Hit "Partition and Quick format" and wa-la, its done.

9. Your ps3 hard drive should now be completely 'pink' within Swissknife,

meaning it was formatted. Now just turn of your computer, and replace the hard drive back into your ps3.

it should work... If not then you have a worse problem and you need to call sony
