As mentioned previously a lot of thoughts about the recent ‘maintenance work’ on the PSN has been blamed on Anonymous, it seems our thoughts were indeed on the right track. Although opinions vary between pointing the blame on Hackers or Sony, it appears Sony are now blaming hackers as well. It seems that even Sony are now aware of what is going on and how serious it truly is, with the recent down time of the PlayStation Network, Team Sony are losing fans left, right and centre.

We can’t be 100% sure that it’s definitely anonymous behind the attacks, as a recent statement from them has distanced them from the blame. Sony is sure that they have been attacked though, so are we to believe yet another group are out to get Sony? How possible could it be? Another hacker group would definitely make the situation much worse for gamers and the PSN.

Patrick Seybold, the Communications Director from Sony has said the following, “An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th.”

This is the information we have used to believe hackers are responsible, however to counteract this, hacking group Anonymous has stated “While it could be the case that other Anons have acted by themselves, AnonOps are not related to this incident and takes no responsiblity for it.”

It could be another hacking group, maybe a lie on either Sony’s part or Anonymous’. Who knows?

Let me know your thoughts.

So, you're saying, if a multi-billion dollar company sued you for doing something that is completely legal, you wouldn't want to get revenge on them?

Sony sued geohot... Is he hacking them? No... So anyone else hacking them is just someone who wasn't sued. Therefore they have no right to anything. Anon is a group of people who have no leader, are disorganized, can't get a story straight, and have 12 year olds on their dick because they stood up to sony for a day. All they do is screw up the community. Maybe one day they'll learn to stand up to them in a way that is actually thought out for longer than 30 seconds... Or maybe when someone says wait, that's a bad idea, they'll listen. And number 2, "completely legal" is not quite stating it correctly. The correct way to state it is there is no legal precedence and therefore both parties were trying to establish a legal claim in their favor. Now there still isn't a legal precedence and who knows when one will be set.
