The SDK is the map maker, and yes it's tough to use but it offers people who have experience with the program the power to make chambers as detailed and complex as their mind can imagine.
As for competition and leaderboards, those will come in DLC in the same way they did for Portal 1. Rumors have it that leaderboards, along with challenge maps, will be released in early June.

I recently finished Portal 2 and the story id good, and the puzzles sometimes annoyed me
but now its over there is just nothing to do except co-op, and to get platinum trophy.
I was thinking what if you could create your own puzzles. Just like LBP you design it and upload it to share with the community. This will make people keep the game longer then a week. You can use all your brains to make some really great puzzles.

I just think this would have given the game an online competitive edge. Maybe have leaderboards of some of the fastest times / most played / most impossible puzzle etc.
If they did this I would easily have kept the game for much longer then I plan to. Whats your opinion on this? Do you reckon it would work?
Thanks :y:
As an FYI, people have already been making maps for some time, you can find and download them (for a PC version of Portal 2) here:

My personal favorite so far is Sphere of Roundness and Old Faithful, two custom chambers by the same guy. If you download the Old Faithful pack it has both maps and they load one right after the other, so you don't have to use the dev console to switch to the next one. Just download them to Steam/steamapps/common/Portal 2/portal2/common/maps and then either open the map file from there or open Portal 2 and in the console type map lob_sphere_of_roundness
