He is considered one of the most famous hackers of the Playstation 3 - and must now deal with Sony in a lawsuit. Golem.de has asked the programmer Egorenkov Alexander, better known as "Graf_Chokolo" on the PS3, the problems of the Playstation Network and Anonymous.
House searches, confiscation of computer Parks: Since February 2011, Sony Computer Entertainment law against living in southern Germany, Alexander Hacker Egorenkov, the better under his pseudonym "Graf_Chokolo" is known. He is accused, among other things, to have been involved in deciphering the copy of the Playstation 3 and published for the hack needed to have data on the Internet. Trailers can support him in his legal battle with Sony to cash donations on his blog.

The interview was conducted via mail, over the current proceedings could not comment Egorenkov; Golem.de waived at his request to the publication of a photo. The pseudonym "Graf_Chokolo" refers to Schokula Count, a vampire addicted to chocolate, from the Simpsons TV series.

Golem.de: Did you actually have a Playstation 3 - and what you use the console in particular?

Alexander Egorenkov: I had a lot of PS3 consoles, three of his own and I was hired recently. All were taken away from me. I use the Playstation 3 only to develop and reverse engineering, games for the PS3 I do not, do not care for it. Games I find boring, reverse engineering and programming, however I do a lot of fun. GameOS I hardly use, mainly on the thought of Linux on the PS3, the development of new Linux kernel driver for PS3.

Golem.de: How do you see yourself as a hacker, gamer, coder, Internet activist ,...?

Egorenkov: I see myself primarily as a coder, reverse engineer and then maybe a bit of a hacker. Above all, I am very interested in technical knowledge, which is also the reason why I started reverse engineering on the PS3. I will help him a lot of fun to find something new self-employed, especially on the operation of an operating system and hypervisor.

Golem.de: If companies like Sony, but for example, Nintendo or Microsoft or Google, your opinion, evil? What practices of the companies annoy you?

Egorenkov: All these companies bothers me that they are very monopolistic. They believe that the purchase of their products somehow binds to them. I also like it not at all, if someone says that - just because I buy something from him - he has any rights over me, or that he can tell me where to go. And Sony is trying. And as the Sony "OtherOS" support has removed the company has not asked his client whether they are good or not. Why should I listen to Sony, when they tell me to stop I do? further.
The problem 'Other OS'
Golem.de: What is wrong with you that Sony, select "Other OS" has turned off?

Egorenkov: I think a lot of how I want to have Linux or FreeBSD on the Playstation 3 because it is much better suited for programming than GameOS. GameOS is only to play well with Linux, however, it is easy to develop new programs for the PS3 and thus expand their own PS3 with new functionality to exploit the full power of the PS3. GameOS allows us not and is not nearly as mature as Linux.

Golem.de: How do you see the current rules to protect intellectual property, for example in terms of copy protection systems?

Egorenkov: I think that something is being abused, unfortunately, very much on big companies like Sony. Sony has money and power and believes it can do what they want. Unfortunately, this is the reality. I see it very differently.

Golem.de: What do you think about the actions of Anonymous, which was also fighting on your behalf against Sony?

Egorenkov: I am Anonymous and all the other very grateful for the support they offer me. If we give in without a fight ever, then we will soon large companies like Sony to make life a living hell and tell us all where it's at. This must not allow them, and I am also willing to answer for my principles. The last PSN attacks have shown us how incompetent and negligent Sony deal with our private data. Many blame the hackers out, but the truth is that Sony is the main culprit. Sony is responsible for our private data!

Golem.de, would you still want more support from the community, and in what form?

Egorenkov: I wish above all that more people would show some backbone. Then Sony could not afford everything.

Golem.de: Can you tell us a little about yourself: What do you do what interests you?

Egorenkov: Professionally, I work as a programmer. Reverse engineering and programming is not all that interests me. I enjoy reading classic literature and enjoy going to the theater, opera and the ballet. (Ps)

If you purchase something, you have the right to modify it in any way you like w/ the exception of software.

If a system such as the PS3 is locked down in such a way that you must reverse-engineer that coding, then personally I believe that it should be legal, just like it is for computers and mobile phones.

This is Sony's fault for removing the Linux feature, and since then forcing people to update to their latest firmware.

What people do then w/ CFW is up to them, and if a large chunk of them want to pirate and whatnot then so be it, they can be punished separately.

It's all about rights for me and a lot of other people, because if you can't modify the system how you see fit after purchasing it then essentially you're no more than renting it from Sony.

That's where I disagree. Buying a product doesn't give you the right to literally do what you want. If I buy an Iphone, it doesn't mean I'm entitled to jailbreaking it and stealing apps just because I paid for it. Products have agreements. And honestly they only requiring you to update in order to play online.

So you can do what you want to the system but not on THEIR SERVERS that have an agreement you must sign. It's almost like me trying to rationalise recording Fast Five at the movie theater and saying I bought the camcorder therefore I have the right to film EVEN THOUGH the movie plainly states I can't.

Honestly I think you portray hackers like him as nice guys wanting to get the best out his system but Evil Sony wants to ruin that and be dictators.

The way I see it hackers like him want to find ways to pirate games and get free shit but Sony wants to prevent such piracy.

I'm just calling a spade a spade. I can bet for every 1 guy trying to simply run old console emulators or OS systems there are 5 guys just trying to save $ by bootlegging games.

I have ZERO issue with bootleggers(my bro is one) but I also have ZERO issue with Sony trying to prevent the bootleggers. Hell some people use CD Burners to make mixtapes but most people use CD Burners to make a profit or get illegal music. You can't sacrifice millions of potential revenue just to appease the SMALL percentage of "innocent" hackers. Especially since Sony is THIRD.

It's just ironic that people ignore legal documents but when a company does something illegal THEN they are all about legal speak. I got Bootleg Windows, music and movies but at the end of the day I don't try and rationalise it by saying I am fighting some noble cause against Microsoft... Because I do it to save $

The bit I put in bold I agree with, because when you purchase a PS3 you have the right to modify the system but in regards to PSN you have no rights at all. Fair? Should be, otherwise we don't really own our consoles at all.

Fair enough. Don't get me wrong, hackers are fine outside of those who steal identifies.

My point was his notion that Sony or any company should respect people exploiting their already last place console is laughable. He may be fighting for hackers but not a noble cause. Sony isn't evil for trying to stop piracy which is supposedly the reason for Linux removal. People did CFW mostly for piracy NOT in retaliation for OS removal.

I do bad and illegal things but unless I'm in court I won't try and justify them or pretend I'm taking some imaginary stand against the machin.

So offline you should be able to modify. Bad hackers ruin it for everybody, ie. MW2 prestige hack turning into godmode, derank lobbies ****ing it up for all hackers and non hackers alike.
