Sony Corp’s Executive Deputy President Kazuo Hirai is to host a news conference on Sunday regarding the security breach of the PlayStation Network.

According to the news release, Hirai will speak at 2:00 p.m. Japan time (09:00 a.m. ET) about the breach, as well as the firm’s information management system and the schedule to resume services.

The Japanese electronic giant warned earlier in the week that hackers had stolen names, addresses, and possibly credit card details from the 77 million user accounts from the PlayStation Network, its been down ever since.

We expect to hear what Sony intend to do to appease fans during this press conference.

Sony is expected to provide its most detailed update yet on Sunday on a hack that hit the PlayStation Network and the status of personal information and credit card numbers of up to 77 million customers.

Kaz Hirai, the head of Sony's gaming division, will speak to journalists in Tokyo and provide the findings of an investigation into the hack of its online gaming service, said Sony. Hirai will also detail the PlayStation Network's system security measures and service restoration plan.

The PlayStation Network, which acts as an e-commerce and online gaming platform for the PlayStation 3, has been unavailable for more than a week. Sony took it offline after discovering an attack on the system had taken place.

Sony's main avenue of communications with its customers to date has been via messages on its regional websites. But many questions are yet to be answered.

Chief among them is the size of a data leak that took place. Sony said customer information was lost, but its unclear if it affects all 77 million customers of a subset of them. The status of customer credit card numbers is also uncertain. Sony previously said it hadn't uncovered evidence of a theft of card numbers, but it advised users to nonetheless be on the look out for suspicious transactions.

Also in the spotlight is Sony's apparent slowness in taking the network offline and informing customers. The company said it became aware of an intrusion on April 19 but the network wasn't taken offline until a day later. It was two further days until Sony acknowledged it had been hit by an attack, and only on April 26 did it warn customers their information may have been stolen.

The news conference will be Hirai's first public comments on the hack and outage. He appeared before reporters in Tokyo on Tuesday to present prototypes of Sony's upcoming tablet PCs, but he did not address the PlayStation Network problems.

So what do you think sony will be saying ? maybe a date for psn back up? i hope so.

Really guys? Haven't ANY of you ever listened to an actual press conference? It's just notifying the media, and consumers, such as people like my 31 year old brother who doesn't do the computer thing, and only knows that Sony was hacked by watching a 5 second news shot about it because the news is more concerned about the ****ing wedding in Europe, than paying attention to the gas prices, the U.S credit card possibility of being stolen from PSN network, concerns in Libya, the shit storm of tornadoes that killed a couple hundred...because our media here in the U.S is ****ing retarded.

All they will talk about is the latest news regarding the hacking scheme, and then, mention an ETA on when PSN will be back up and running. All of these stupid ass speculations around the internet are just feeding your minds to give you all a HOPE. S-T-O-P listening to the shit you see or read on the internet. Unless this press conference throws a time out there, or if the Playstation blog gives you a day, don't say, 'well THIS is when PSN will be back and running'. Press conferences are usually pointless when people like us, here at NGU, already know so much about the situation. People like my brother, who's lost in the matter, will probably look forward to the information. Have a good morning. And for the record, PSN WILL NOT be up today. Look in their blogs over at us.playstation.com
Unless it specifically says, 'PSN might resume services today, April 30, 2011,' don't listen to any other stupid ****ing blogs across the internet. PEACE.
