A few days ago we reported that the US House of Representatives had written a letter to Sony in regards about the security breach of the PSN. Well, today Sony has responded. According to Sony, they followed four key principles in dealing with this cyber attack. Those four principles are:

What is more shocking is that Sony also informed the House of Representatives that the intruders had planted a file on the Sony Online Entertainment servers named “Anonymous” with the words “We are Legion.” So as we reported earlier, Sony now has started to point fingers at Anonymous. Even though just a few days ago, they reiterated that they do not think Anonymous is behind the security breach of the PSN. Furthermore, Sony informed that by April 25th, forensics team were able to confirm the personal data that was believed to have been taken, and could not rule out whether credit card information was accessed. As of today, the major credit card companies have not reported any fraudulent transactions that are from this cyber attack.

•We are taking a number of steps to prevent future breaches, including enhanced levels of data protection and encryption; enhanced ability to detect software intrusions, unauthorized access and unusual activity patterns; additional firewalls; establishment of a new data center in an undisclosed location with increased security; and the naming of a new Chief Information Security Officer.

Sony also said that they let the House of Representative know about their “intent” to offer complimentary identity theft protection to US account holders. They also informed the House about the “Welcome Back” program in detail. More updates will be up as Sony works on getting the PSN restored.
