Everyone’s familiar with the Call of Duty brand. What some people might not know though is how many studios Activision currently have working on the brand itself.
Infinity Ward does the Modern Warfare games (What’s left of the studio anyway), Treyarch did the most recent one, Black Ops, and we also have Raven Software, Sledgehammer Games and Beachhead studios.
Raven Software is rumored to be working with Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games on Modern Warfare 3, which is supposed to be revealed this year and go up against EA’s Battlefield 3. To this end, there have been several rumblings about the Call of Duty brand and where it’s headed. One speculation is it will go past the modern setting and into the realm of sci-fi; another rumor is that it will go the MMO/online route.
While both rumors sound plausible, website Rock, Paper, Shotgun has just received a tip that we will soon be getting a major announcement regarding the Call of Duty brand, and it looks to be centric to the PC.
According to the tip, they’re calling it Call of Duty Online. This might be the Call of Duty “online solution” Bobby Kotick has mentioned before, or at the very least, part of it.
The site speculates that this might be a free-to-play shooter much in the same vein as Battlefield: Play4Free.
Will it be a Call of Duty MMO or a browser game? Or even Call of DutyVille? Activision-Blizzard is scheduled to reveal their quarterly results this coming week, there’s a very good possibility we’ll know more then.

The voice of Modern Warfare 2's Ghost has dropped strong hints that the series' next instalment will be announced this month - possibly within the week.
Asked on talkSPORT this weekend about his Call of Duty work, Craig Fairbrass - who provided his voice for both Modern Warfare games - said he's "just been out in LA doing something that's going to be announced in May."
He said: "I did Call of Duty: Modern Warfare as Gaz and then I did Ghost in Modern Warfare 2, which has become one of the most iconic figures in the history of computer games, which is great.
"And I've just been out in LA doing something that's going to be announced in May... I've just been out there doing some bits and pieces and one of it's to do with... I can't say too much."
Fairbrass's claim falls in line with Activision's imminent first quarter 2011 financial results, which is set to happen in less than a week next Monday (May 9).
With the second and latest Black Ops DLC released this morning as well, it's seemingly the perfect time to announce the next instalment, which is rumoured to be in development at Infinity Ward, Raven and Sledgehammer.
Quizzed further on the work of voicing a Modern Warfare character, Fairbrass called the process "incredible".
"You do like five, six, seven sessions and they record it in this great big studio in Los Angeles, which is absolutely mental," he said.
"I was out there from January to the end of February [and] Activision took me to their hub, I was a guest for the day, and they took me all around and they showed me the game - you know, these games are like $200 million to produce.
"It's incredible. This place was like the size of 10 factories, there was all these people working."
It's previously been rumoured that Modern Warfare 3 will take the shape of a prequel, starring Fairbrass's character Ghost.
Even PcWorld (

Official announcements are so yesterday. I mean actually yesterday. By the time companies get around to “breaking” news, enough information’s accreted that we already know a game like Modern Warfare 3’s going to be a series prequel starring Simon “Ghost” Riley (you know, mister skull-bandana-face) as persona primo.
Okay, we don’t know know, but after the first two games made bazillions, we can say with fair certainty Modern Warfare 3’s in the offing. No doubters, right? No one willing to argue Activision plans to scrap the franchise and replace with something like Rifle Rage: Big Buck Hunting 2?
Well that official announcement may be happening later this week (or month) to hear the voice of Ghost in Modern Warfare 2 tell it.
That would be Craig Fairbrass, who told UK sports radio station talkSPORT (noticed by CVG) that he’s just off work for Activision on a “$200 million” game.
"And I've just been out in LA doing something that's going to be announced in May…” said Fairbrass during the interview. “I've just been out there doing some bits and pieces and one of it's to do with... I can't say too much."
Well you probably shouldn’t have said anything, then. What else would Activision be working on that’s “like $200 million” starring you. A new Spyro the Dragon?
"It's incredible. This place was like the size of 10 factories, there was all these people working,” added Fairbrass.
So we can rule out Crash Bandicoot Begins or Tony Hawk Pro Skater Forever, then.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 might be announced by Activision later tonight since there's Activision's event tonight(according to NG4).
I dont know if theres actually activision's event tonight
Sorry!
Thanks for stopping by!
