(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); This is a guide on how to identify YLOD/ The cause of YLOD + How to prevent YLOD

How to identify it

You can identify the YLOD by the following signs:

* The console starts up normally for about 2-3 seconds,
* The console beeps 3 times while flashing a faint yellow light,
* The console continues to flash a red light.
* Cannot power on the PS3 by remote.
* The red light turns to green and then off straight away.
* The console will not turn on at all.

The console starts up normally for about 2-3 seconds

The main explanation of this is that the console light is green for 2-3 seconds, then turns off straight away, it may not seem like YLOD, but it is.

The console beeps 3 times while flashing a faint yellow light

This is what a typical YLOD looks like, the console will beep 3 times, as it says, and for every beep, a yellow light should flash, the yellow light should go away after these beeps and the console should fully turn off.

The console continues to flash a red light

This has happened to a friend of mine, when you turn on the PS3, it should just beep and flash red, it's as simple as that, and as i said, even though there is no yellow light, it is still YLOD.

Cannot power on the PS3 by remote

This means when you press the PS on your remote to turn the PS3, it will not turn on, this is YLOD, I am pretty sure if you turn it on manually it won't either.

The red light turns to green and then off straight away

This is almost exactly the same as my first diagnosis, except it goes off straight away and also beeps once as it turns to green.

The console will not turn on at all

The console will do absolutely nothing, it won't turn on, it won't beep, it won't flash.

If any of this happens to you, send your PS3 into a fixing company, some are cheap some are expensive, but remember, 3% of all YLOD consoles are unfixable, you will see why if you click the causes of YLOD on the multipage to your right.

[multipage=The cause of YLOD]
The general cause
These are causes PS3 owners have witnessed and are the main causes to YLOD.

Excessive dust deposits have managed to lodge themselves firmly inside the air ventilation system of the ps3 console which in turn has inhibited and impaired the efficiency by which fresh air is circulated around the system. Left for an extended period of time, this can cause your console to break down completely.

Power surges result in a massive electrical current to pass through the components of the ps3, thereby causing them to short circuit and malfunction of your console.

Over-heating: This is a general cause, it is caused by the first cause above ^, if you read the first page, I said that "3% of all YLOD consoles are unfixable" This is because the heat will completely destroy the motherboard, this has happened to me before.

[multipage=How to prevent YLOD]
Power surge

Drinks:

In order to protect your ps3 console from the possibility of a power surge, make sure that you ensure that no liquids of any sort ever come into contact with the console. Whilst the ps3 console is protected by a tough shell exterior, you do not ever want to take the chance. After all, there is every possibility that the liquid spilled will then trickle down the side and rear of the console, and then slip into the console through the pores of the vents. If you want to know How to repair the ps3 yellow light of death, you need to learn common sense first!

Mains:

When you plug your ps3 console into a main power supply, make sure you have a surge protector handy as well. This means that in the event that there is a power failure or any other external event that causes a sudden spike in the power, this means that your ps3 will not be at risk. How to repair the ps3 yellow light of death focuses on damage control, and the prevention of risks, as any ps3 ylod repair will no doubt point out to you.

Placement of the console

Another way to prevent the ps3 yellow light of death is to ensure that you only ever play your ps3 on a flat, even surface which is free from obstructions and obstacles and which does not have carpet present. The reason that carpet is a risk is due to the fact that it is a dust magnet, and so trace amounts of dust will come in and clog the air vent of the ps3 console.

An easy precaution

Wiping down your ps3 console with a damp cloth (obviously, when the power is turned off) will help ensure that the question of How to repair the ps3 yellow light of death does not need to be raised.

Room

Give the PS3 a lot of room, I call it, breathing area, don't cramp it up into a book shelf, put it on top of a shelf, not on the floor (especially carpet)
Break

Take a break once in a while, turn the PS3 fully off and let it cool down for a bit, whatever you do, DO NOT leave it running.

Cooler

This way is a more complicated way to prevent YLOD, you can buy coolers to install in your PS3, to keep the system cool, it you would have to take it all apart and install it, which is pretty hard.
[multipage=What to do if you are affected]

Just a quick note before I tell you what to do, make sure you have warranty just incase anything does happen!

what to do

You have 3 choices-

Give it to Sony

Give your PS3 to Sony and let them fix it. They’ll charge $150 (+shipping + taxes) and will return your PS3 in 4-6 weeks. Also, Sony will remove all the data from your HDD when repairing YLOD.

Find a repair company

Give it to a repair company and ask them to fix it, they’ll charge around $100 and will take around 3 weeks. Look at the recommendations page for good quality fixing companies.

Fix it yourself (not recommended :P!)

Buy a professional repair guide and fix your PS3 yourself. It will cost you $37 and around 2 hours to fix your PS3 YLOD, I said I do not recommend this because I did this and ended up destroying my own motherboard, so a company could not fix it in the end!

Do or Do Not, There is No Try
DON'T do the fan test as it can only lead to more problems.
