So we all know about the rumors that were brought to an end by Sony posting that the Playstation Store is still undergoing maintenance & won't be back up today. But there is still some good news for you online gaming addicts: the Playstation Store 'Redeem Code' feature may be brought up this morning, giving you some time to goto your local store & buy a PSN card (much, much safer than using your credit card, if you know what I mean).

The reason that Sony is doing this; is because they knew that a lot of gamers buy certain games for online play, when I say a lot, I mean 75-80% of the population of Playstation Network. Also, some fans of DiRT 3 & the new title Mortal Kombat are unable to play online while Playstation Network was back up because you need a 'redeem code' to play (online, that is). A redeem code is something like a 'Beta Code' Playstation Plus users get in an e-mail when a new game needs to be tested, but for 'online redeem codes', you can normally buy it in the Playstation Store like it's regular DLC.

It isn’t just Mortal Kombat–this issue can plague a large variety of games that require and online pass, and, instead of making more “no-pass required” agreements, it would be easier for Sony just to activate the Redeem-Code feature that is available in the Account Management section.

A key reason why Sony might re-open the 'Redeem Code' feature is because DiRT 3 was just released today, & all players who wish to play online aren't able to do so because of the Playstation Store, & the online play in DiRT 3 is a really big part of the game.

You won't be able to access the 'Redeem Code' feature through the Playstation Store if it's opened, but you'll be able to do so in Account Management.

Let's hope this happens!

With Sony's track record I would say that they will put it off and blame it on hackers. lol
