Sony who announced a $3 Billion plus loss last week is pinning their future, on a brand new processor which some are speculating will lead to a new Playstation 4.

We have been told that IBM is working / developing Sony it's new very fast preprocessor for it's Upcoming PS4 and Bravia TV. IBM is the original architect with Sony and Toshiba of the Cell processor, which has been used by both Sony and Microsoft to power their gaming processors for nearly 10 years.

sources claim that the new multi core PowerPC processor, which Big Blue, has spent several years developing is now part of a joint development project with IBM.

Recently Sony has tried to buy back the Toshiba Cell factory in Nagasaki for $600 million. Sony Hope that this will be used to manufacture the processor for both Sony Toshiba and IBM devices.

Being twice as fast as the current processors, The new 32nm Cell processor is tipped to be capable of up to 16 SPEs. At least, that's what the IBM leaks say.

Sony is gearing up to manufacture the Cell processor in bulk claim local Japanese sources, saying that the smart little processors may be used in Sony notebooks and as said before, upcoming televisions.

"We will always need a means by which people can access content other than via an IP network, because in many Countries there is no fast broadband infrastructure. This is where Blu ray will have a life after markets like Europe and the US has moved onto fibre networks".

You choose, but I personally can't understand the mentality of not wanting to raise the bar when there's the opportunity to do so(with the exception of if you don't wanna be paying for another console, which I understand, but which shouldn't stop MS & Sony from trying).

Finally some one that understands/has read the thread :y:

TBH, PS3 doesnt make any profit at all to make a ps3 is around £600-800 and they sell the console for around £200 so they are making a loss and i think PS4 will rack up to £600 when it comes out and for sony to make a ps4 will proberly be doubled from the ps3

Well that would be easy, due to the fact that the only reason the PS3 doesn't support the PS2 is because Sony chose for it not to. I found this out whilst snooping around some XML files on the flash, certainly looks like Sony purposefully didn't add PS2 backwards compatibility, perhaps because of all their recent HD remakes?

If i was Sony right now, I would have one team working on the PS3 (That includes the protection for online, and the community.)

Sony will than hire another team within the Sony company. Since they already brought in IBM they are starting to make things interesting. IBM has been strong on computers providing lots of programs within windows. We all know that IBM is helping Sony, but can Sony protect/stop IBM from helping Microsoft too?

To be Honest, I think Sony is going the right way. Maybe Sony had learn their lesson from the recent attacks, who knows. There are also other reports saying that Sony is going to have google help, Using their software too. IF i mean IF both IBM and Google help Sony make PS4 we will have the amazing combination of Social online communication and have a whole new graphics for the NGC. :PBJ:r

Nice! All these things looks crazy, I hope they are doing their best to achieve a very superior console. I still enjoy my PS3 but can't wait to see what this console potential has for us.
