(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So I have a Fat 80gig that started randomly shutting off when playing MW2 a few months ago. When it shuts off it beeps 3 times and goes straight to a red blinking light (no yellow light) and I can just tap the button twice to start it back up. Different games make it shut off at different times for example, I can't play a game of MW2 anymore without it shutting off but I can play GT5 for at least an hour before shutting off. All together its done this around 100 times and it's starting to get annoying so followed a tutorial that's supposed to fix the YLOD problem and it changed nothing. Then recently, I thought it was a power supply issue because I was running the PS3 without the top and the power supply got so hot that I couldn't even touch it. I played black ops for an hour and the PS3 just cut out power altogether with no sound or blinking lights and the power supply smelled like burning plastic. I took out the power supply, let it cool down, and it worked again.....for a little then did the same thing. I just bought a new power supply off ebay for $30.00 and it is supposedly more efficient and therefore produces less heat. I will give an update as to whether this works or not when it gets here but in the meantime, has this happened to any of you and what did you do? or what are your thoughts on this? Does anyone know what the problem is?

I did put new thermal compound on the cpu but I made sure it was perfect.

I think it's a little weird how only certain games cause it to shutoff.
