i have an 80gb fat ps3 on firmware 3.41 and a 40gb fat ps3 on the latest firmware and i want to put my 80gb harddrive from my 3.41 into my 3.61 ps3 , but when i start it up it say i need to reformat the harddrive and put the lateist update on it and i was just wondering if i do this, will this meen i wont have a 3.41... basicaly what im asking is , is the SYSTEM SOFTWARE saved on the actual console or the harddrive?? please help , would be much apreshiated

First off to hack you transfer 3.41 to the 3.61. It will ask you to reformatt the 3.61 not the 3.41. REformmating the 3.61 will just delete all the data which you can get back if you use a usb to back it up.

no i am not trying to hack. all i am trying to do is put my 80gb harddrive from my 3.41 ps3 into my 3.61 ps3 so i have more memory but when i put the 80gb harddrive into my 3.61 ps3 it say i need 2 update my harddrive to the newist firmware. ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS, IS THE SYSTEM UPDATE VERSION ON THE ACTUAL SYSTEM OR ON THE HARDDRIVE???????????????
