- A group of hackers said they hit a Sony Corp. (SNE, 6758.TO) unit computer network on Monday, the latest in a string of attacks on the Japanese technology-and-media giant.

The group of hackers, which calls itself "LulzSec"--a combination of "lulz," or laughs, and security--said it successfully had hit Sony for a fifth time, posting network plans and code allegedly from the company's developer network and music entertainment group.

Sony did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The files, some of which are dated more than two years ago, were posted to LulzSec's website. The files were made available for download.

The posting of the files marks the latest in a string of embarrassments for the Japanese electronics giant, which has become a hacker's target since it sued software wiz George Hotz for publishing a program that allowed customers to alter their PlayStation 3 videogame consoles. LulzSec also has claimed responsibility for attacks on public broadcaster PBS and an affiliate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Sony also has been hit by other hackers. In April, the company's videogame network was struck with denial-of-service attacks orchestrated by a loose group of Internet vigilantes called "Anonymous" protesting the lawsuit against Hotz. Later, Sony suffered a sophisticated attack that compromised the names, addresses and birth dates of more than 100 million users of its PlayStation Network and Sony Online Entertainment videogame networks.

On Monday, Sony American depositary receipts, which hit a 52-week low during the session, closed down 2.4% at $25.76. The U.S. shares fell another 0.2% to $25.71 in after-hours trading.

Just a bunch of wannabees who claimed they were the ones responsible for the downtime. All they can do is hack minor sections of Sony, if that. Nothing more than a bug on their windscreen.
