Does anyone have any ideas how I can fix this?

copy your savedata just to be safe onto a usb delete the user from your ps3(NOT the account the user) and then recreate it you won't lose anything but I still suggest backing up savedata just to be safe that and your psn messages will be deleted(if that matters to you) but the error should go away.

This deletes everything I've ever downloaded on that profile... Is there no other way?

I have had trophy errors but after few days Im able to sync them. So don't worry...dont go off deleting if u dont feel like. Just try everyday and Im sure it will 100% sync.

As far as I know there is no other way I had a similar problem a long time ago but it didn't delete anything I downloaded... odd.

I had this very same problem before mate. Are you using a router? If so, no all the ports are open for your PS3 to sync the information to the servers. I don't know how my ports were closed, but somehow they were. So I had to Port Forward the ports needed to my router. Everything worked perfectly after that. I never lost any save data or trophy information.
