Okay I'm sure most of us have funny stories to tell about what happened to our ps3's or someone else.
Okay well this is my story,
I always took care of my ps3, dusted the stand I kept it in, when taking it with me, always stuffed the edges with clothes in my bag so if I ever dropped it nothing would happen. You get it, well, one day I decide to take my ps3 with me to take it to my cousins house and I put it in this free Microsoft bag I got (lol). I like it because it has a lot of cushion support in the bag so I don't need to stuff it with clothes. So as I am outside ready to place it in the trunk, I usually don't but I had my basketball with me and I couldn't carry both of them with me in the car, and suddenly my sister throws a pile of snow at me! As we would all do, I put down the bag, and grab snow and have a little snow ball fight with my sister, but then a noise flooded my ears, that shook me to the bone, the crunching of plastic! My ps3 was run over! For my uncle who was driving backed up because he thought I had already put my ps3 inside the car. So their it was, under the car. So I yelled at my uncle to move forward but slowly. So he did, and I got the bag and opened it, and took out my ps3 in pieces. I took all the pieces and took it inside and left to my cousins house, and spent the day thinking of how to blame my sister for this tragic accident for my mom would kill me especially since the ps3 was $670. After about hours of arguing with my sister and my mom, I finally come home and slam the door shut. While in my room watching some lame late night comedy show, I get my ps3 pieces and put them on the floor in front of me. Then I plug in the power cord to the back of the ps3 and connect it and see if it turns on, and it does! Life was beginning to show to what seemed to be a dead black box. Now I get the big top piece which covers the top of the ps3 and put it back together with carefully placed superglue and snap it back on, and try gluing whatever other pieces I could, and honestly my ps3 did not look so bad. So finally came the moment of truth, I plugged the HDMI cable into my ps3 and my tv. I turned on the tv and waited for an image to show, and then the most soothing sound came on as the sound of my ps3 turning on came on my tv and the picture came on! Other than the exterior, my ps3 was performing perfectly! So, my ps3 got run over and it still works! Try that xbox!
My friend got a YLOD on his PS3, so to fix it he shoved a hair drier right up close to the rear PS3 vents.
He left the hair drier on for an hour to let it accumulate some heat, and when he came back to it, the rear of his PS3 was melted and slowly merging over the shape of his desk.

The following user thanked Gizmo for this useful post:
i go on BO and tell everyone i can host 15th and mod menus (i fake a name and patch) then i put it on Gun Game etc and make on of the classes have full health and super speed =D then tell people to activate the menu they have to press Start, X, Up, Start, Up, X and its makes them quit
I made a challenge lobby in mw2 like when they first released a tut. i went into a public lobby and was host i deranked everyone in the lobby. Then when the game ended there all like wtf why is everybody level 1 now. But then i got banned from psn then sold my ps3 for a xbox =D

Tell your friend he's not alone. I did the same thing and the vents got so wrecked my local repair shop wouldn't even touch it because they knew it was a lost cause.
