(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hi,
Im new to ngu, this is a short guide/tutorial by me, Transcendent, to give you another option if you have had a yellow light of death...

If you had a ylod & bought your ps3 in the uk (England, scotland, wales, or northern ireland) you are entitled to compensation of some kind,
under The sales of goods act1979.

The Method:

You are basically going to forget the manufacturer(Sony), & take your case to the retailer, this is usually the best option !!!

What is The sales of goods act 1979:

The sales of goods act 1979 was made to protect the consumers in the uk from the retailers, not many people know about their rights, also if you use a credit card, you could take your case to the credit card company instead..

You must login or register to view this content.

How you are compensated varies from case to case, it could be a new ps3, cash, store credit, or repair of your playstation you paid for...

What you need:

1) A Receipt OR credit card i.e proof of purchase, if you used a credit card to purchase see the link below...
(You must login or register to view this content.)

2) A engineers report i.e evidence of ylod, GET THE ENGINEERS REPORT AFTER THE RETAILER ASKS FOR IT !!! its really easy to get the evidence your ps3 has a ylod, there are many places you can get a engineers report, checkout your local ps3 repair shop or if you're lazy you can have it collected, tested & delivered. by all means shop around for the best offer...

You must login or register to view this content.

When you speak to the engineer be assertive make sure you tell them you want a engineers report proving your ps3 yloded due to a manufacturer's defect, let them know you need the evidence because you're taking the retailer to small claims court under The sales of goods act 1979, the engineer will give you what you want...

THE RETAILER SHOULD REFUND YOU IN CASH FOR THE ENGINEERS REPORT !!!

Keywords:

-Sales of goods act 1979

-Manufacturer's defect

-Small claims court

What exactly needs to be done:

First call the retailer or credit card company !!! or you can send letters, e-mails or you could visit them but the best method is to pick up the phone & give them a call...

Tell them you bought a faulty ps3 with a manufacturer's defect, tell them you want to be compensated, ask for what form of compensation you want but dont go mad or be pushy. be polite and and tell them you are prepared to take them to small claims court under the sales of goods act 1979 if you aren't compensated. remember to be polite!!!

You might be asked to be put on hold or the call will probably be passed on to someone higher up, the person on the phone will ask obvious questions like "have you got proof of purchase", "were" "when" etc, answer them accordingly, remember to be polite, repeat your case and remember the key words "manufacturer's defect" "small claims court" "Sales of goods act 1979", be polite...

IF the person you are speaking to knows how to do their job, they will give you a reference number and tell you to get evidence of the manufacturer's defect.
i.e a engineers report, they might tell you to take the engineers report in store with proof of purchase the reference number you were given, and you will be compensated on the spot, it all depends on the retailer, all retailers will compensate differently and deal with you differently....

IT WILL NEVER BE TAKEN TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT !!!

The retailer always compensates, no retailer will refuse to compensate and go to small claims court, if you have a engineers report, just remember to make your case and tell them you know your rights, but remember to be polite & well spoken...

An example of a ps3 ylod engineers report:

Dont forge this and provide the retailer with a fake engineers report, you will get caught, i provided an example so you know what you need to get, you need to provide them a engineers report made by a legit engineer who is ready for a call from the retailer...

Fraud works so Smile. Anyway, I'm not saying that this thread is bad, it's actually quite the opposite. I already know about these sort of things because my mum is a legal secretary and I watched some program called Don't Get Screwed, I think that's what it was called, and that had a bunch of helpful info on it.

how old are you ?¿?

im not going to bother to delve into a rant about fraud, you want to start a debate, go start a debate in the correct section:

Does my ps3 have to be ylod'ed? I was thinking of showing them my original ps3, (I have 2) and just making the claim on the other ps3, which has a broken blu ray?

no it doesn't have to be ylod'ed, and it doesn't have to be a ps3, it could be anything, from a car to a 60" tv...

so basically in essence all you need is a qualified engineer to issue you a engineers report stating that your ps3 broke because of a manufacturers defect & its not your fault...

btw where did you buy it ?¿?

if i was you i would call a few ps3 repair shops first, tell them your situation & ask if they could give you what you want, thereafter call the retailer...

also most retailers will pay you back however much you pay for the engineer report....

yes, this exact method only works for people who bought the product in the uk...

its uk law, i dont know american law, but it should be similar...

i wouldn't say its gameover, if i was you i would research american law, try to use the same formula & call the retailer...

are you joking ?¿?

the receipt must contain the serial number, etc, of the exact ps3 you have...
09-04-2011, 01:14 AM #17
I thought so, but its likely theres a similar law..

call the retailer & try to use the same formula !!!

(ps3 broke, not your fault, manufacturers defect etc)

you just cant bring up the specific law, grab them by the nuts & threated to take them to small claims court, but maybe the person on the phone will tell you what law you are protected by, im sure american citizens are protected by law from the the retailers...
