(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hi,
Im new to ngu, this is a short guide/tutorial by me, Transcendent, to give you another option if you have had a yellow light of death...

If you had a ylod & bought your ps3 in the uk (England, scotland, wales, or northern ireland) you are entitled to compensation of some kind,
under The sales of goods act1979.

The Method:

You are basically going to forget the manufacturer(Sony), & take your case to the retailer, this is usually the best option !!!

What is The sales of goods act 1979:

The sales of goods act 1979 was made to protect the consumers in the uk from the retailers, not many people know about their rights, also if you use a credit card, you could take your case to the credit card company instead..

You must login or register to view this content.

How you are compensated varies from case to case, it could be a new ps3, cash, store credit, or repair of your playstation you paid for...

What you need:

1) A Receipt OR credit card i.e proof of purchase, if you used a credit card to purchase see the link below...
(You must login or register to view this content.)

2) A engineers report i.e evidence of ylod, GET THE ENGINEERS REPORT AFTER THE RETAILER ASKS FOR IT !!! its really easy to get the evidence your ps3 has a ylod, there are many places you can get a engineers report, checkout your local ps3 repair shop or if you're lazy you can have it collected, tested & delivered. by all means shop around for the best offer...

You must login or register to view this content.

When you speak to the engineer be assertive make sure you tell them you want a engineers report proving your ps3 yloded due to a manufacturer's defect, let them know you need the evidence because you're taking the retailer to small claims court under The sales of goods act 1979, the engineer will give you what you want...

THE RETAILER SHOULD REFUND YOU IN CASH FOR THE ENGINEERS REPORT !!!

Keywords:

-Sales of goods act 1979

-Manufacturer's defect

-Small claims court

What exactly needs to be done:

First call the retailer or credit card company !!! or you can send letters, e-mails or you could visit them but the best method is to pick up the phone & give them a call...

Tell them you bought a faulty ps3 with a manufacturer's defect, tell them you want to be compensated, ask for what form of compensation you want but dont go mad or be pushy. be polite and and tell them you are prepared to take them to small claims court under the sales of goods act 1979 if you aren't compensated. remember to be polite!!!

You might be asked to be put on hold or the call will probably be passed on to someone higher up, the person on the phone will ask obvious questions like "have you got proof of purchase", "were" "when" etc, answer them accordingly, remember to be polite, repeat your case and remember the key words "manufacturer's defect" "small claims court" "Sales of goods act 1979", be polite...

IF the person you are speaking to knows how to do their job, they will give you a reference number and tell you to get evidence of the manufacturer's defect.
i.e a engineers report, they might tell you to take the engineers report in store with proof of purchase the reference number you were given, and you will be compensated on the spot, it all depends on the retailer, all retailers will compensate differently and deal with you differently....

IT WILL NEVER BE TAKEN TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT !!!

The retailer always compensates, no retailer will refuse to compensate and go to small claims court, if you have a engineers report, just remember to make your case and tell them you know your rights, but remember to be polite & well spoken...

An example of a ps3 ylod engineers report:

Dont forge this and provide the retailer with a fake engineers report, you will get caught, i provided an example so you know what you need to get, you need to provide them a engineers report made by a legit engineer who is ready for a call from the retailer...

Feel free to leave me some feedback, and if you need help let me know....

For two pounds a month and it being easier and less hassle, this is the better solution. You could just buy the insurance when your PS3 YLODS, wait a couple of months and then say that it's broken.

thats like buying health insurance after you die, im pretty sure they only insure new items or they ask to see it in working order...

if i was to get home insurance for example, they would come to my house and see whats in the house and attatch a value, they wont trust my word when i say i have 10 kg piece of solid gold lying around my house that might get stolen...

besides your way involves fraud which is illegal...

Fraud works so Smile. Anyway, I'm not saying that this thread is bad, it's actually quite the opposite. I already know about these sort of things because my mum is a legal secretary and I watched some program called Don't Get Screwed, I think that's what it was called, and that had a bunch of helpful info on it.

Or you can just not play everyday and don't overheat it, I bought my ps3 in 2007 and it still works great.
