you will need heat gun, thermal paste, alcohol wipes and a t-10 screwdriver, as Awayze said there is loads of guides on Youtube. i used this one

it is usually easy to fix but before you try check the power supply isn't burnt out (smell it).

i have the best way to fix it!! but you probly wouldn't do it because it is kinda crazy but it works 1000000% but its tempory 1st time i fixed it lasted 5months wich was pretty decent i must say. i have 40gb works on that i did 60gb it worked but it cut out within 1month. you will need some of this You must login or register to view this content. now look at a tut to open up ps3 then after you have done that, make sure you have taken out the battery and the sticky things on motherboard, place the motherboard on a baking tray put into your OVEN for 12mintues @ 180degrees, turn of after 12minutes take it out let it cool down for 15minutes ,then get the heat transfer compound get a card then spread it over the cpu & gpu thinly you dont want it to thick just inbetween, then put it all back together and i garuntee you it will work!!!!! i was so shocked when it came on i was like WHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOH LOL Smile

Ok you need to remarry 2 boards using heat like a hair dryer look on youtube for a tuutorial. Also it could be a large amount of dust on the inside. Either way to fix it you need to open it up and get to the inside. When you open it up if its dusty clean it out including the harddrive then try to see if it works. If not you will need to heat the boards which you can find on YouTube quote me back if you need anything else.

I would just send it to a repair shop, costs about £50, im taking mine tommorow and i wouldn`t recommend the youtubes methods, most likely it will melt your ps3 parts

I don't have an option or money so either I do that or not fix it
