I don't think so, If this is happening multiple times at an unusually high temperature, then it may be the environment it is in if it is not an internal issue. How is the temperature in your room, and where is your PS3 sitting (like, is it near a surface a doesn't allow the air to properly leave the system?)
Last week my A/C in my house basically died, so both my Original PS3 and Slim PS3 were heating substantially; The Original model could not handle the heat, it was overheating in under 10 minutes, like it would've begun to burn if I left it on any longer. The Slim however, was half as hot, but could manage to stay on for a few hours before it met the same temperature, so I wouldn't worry too much.
Anyway my First PS3 died because of the Heat. It was Christmas week, and during the winter the A/C was naturally warmer to ward off the cold air outside. Now here's where I made a mistake; I had let my PS3 run for 8 consecutive hours in this heat, now my system's inter-cooler itself was a mere 2 inches from a solid wall. This caused the Cooler to just circulate the extremely hot air back at the system since it was all blowing at a wall.
I can't really say much for the possibility of an internal problem, but one aspect of Caring for your PS3 is to have it in a cooled environment when playing excessively (Highly recommended when trying to do Endurance Races on GT5).
In case you were wondering about my A/C problem this past week, I got one of those Room A/Cs put in my Window, although Its extremely cold now..

My PS3s love it, lol. Its gonna be there until this A/C part comes so the A/C in my home will work again.
