So I got a 3.55 Fat 80gb ps3 from a friend who wants me to fix it. The thing has a RSOD. I'm not an idiot on PS3 repairs but I do need some help with this one.
-First, I tried turning on normally. Instant red screen, nothing else.
-Second, I tried recovery menu. It works fine so the NAND isn't the problem.
-Third, I tried formatting HDD from recovery. It doesn't work either.
-Fourth, I tried replacing the HDD with another one. It allowed me to install my firmware update via usb, but as soon as it finished the red screen appeared.
-Fifth, I tried using a dongle to boot into service mode and downgrade (this can fix some RSODs). It goes into service mode correctly. When booted it made the xmb sound but the red screen was still there. It downgraded to 3.41 correctly, but still booted into the red screen with the xmb sound. When I took it out of service mode it booted straight to red screen without any sound.
-Sixth, I tried going from 3.41 to 3.15 via the service mode method. Same exact thing happened as in step 5.
Now I'm stumped. I believe the problem is either the Blu-ray laser being misaligned or the GPU, but I wanted to get some help here first before I rip the thing open. Any help?
Have you tired every option in the recovery menu. I did each one from top to bottom and it solved my RSOD (Had no idea what I was doing at the time) but it worked
But Im pretty sure RSOD is HDD related yes? The screen even says something about a corrupt file?
