It does not make you download it to be logged in but i just checked the system update to see if it was there and it was so everyone download Update 2.80. Not sure what it does yet though. I downloaded mine from my Computer so it goes faster.

Wow... You are so late... This update was released back in june. Its voluntary cause it just improves some playback stuff.
