so lets assume Joe was gamesharing, hacking, glitching or cursing/threatening others while teamkilling, etc.

lets assume sony wants to "ban" or suspend you?
what are the steps they take rising in severity?

1.they warn you first?
2.then they suspend your user account
3.then they fully ban your user account
4.then they ban your IP address
5.then they ban your MAC address

are those the steps they take? if so, HOW can we Restore our account if we are banned? are there ways to Bypass a ban? can the Ps3's MAC address be changed, etc

I was caught a couple years back now, all they did was send me an e-mail notifying me of the banning information, such as the game name and reasons for being reported.

You want to know how long I was banned for?

1 day. Just 1 day.

They don't ban your IP, MAC or anything like that because I was able to switch my account and carry on playing :]

They usuallly give you a warning first for something like verbal abuse or harassment. But they will usually give you a ban for gliching or hacking.
There are certain error codes that mean a suspension is in effect. You see them when you try to sign in. Or you can just call Sony and give them your PSN ID. They will give you the details of the ban. Things like this usually are a week minimum and can last as long as 3 months or more.
If its serious enough, Sony will ban you permanently from the PSN.

Pah! So why did Sony give me the hefty ban of 1 DAY? :3
